Lauren Sanchez mercilessly mocked over her ’embarrassing’ dancing on 2026 Met Gala red carpet

Lauren Sanchez has been mercilessly mocked online over her ’embarrassing’ dancing on the 2026 Met Gala red carpet.

The philanthropist, 56, attended the event in a figure-hugging, navy blue Schiaparelli gown.

As she stepped onto the carpet, Sanchez was greeted with a performance from actor and singer Joshua Henry.

Henry, accompanied by a 12-person choir, covered the hit song I Wanna Dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston.

But when Sanchez was seen dancing along to his performance, some viewers were quick to bash the dance moves.

In a video taken by the Daily Mail, Sanchez, who stood with Nicole Kidman and Anna Wintour, could be seen moving her hips back and forth to the music.

She held her arms awkwardly at her sides as she shimmied, before she raised them to start clapping along to the beat.

Many social media users poked fun at Sanchez’s moves, with some branding them ‘awkward’ and ’embarrassing.’

‘This is BEYOND CRINGE. Met Gala has officially jumped the shark,’ wrote one person on X.

‘This is so f**king embarrassing,’ someone else commented on Instagram.

‘This is embarrassing,’ agreed another user.

‘Cringe,’ read a fourth post, while a fifth said, ‘Lauren dances like a broken washing machine… Lol’

‘This is awkward,’ penned a different person.

‘Why is this so cringey?’ asked another.

Sanchez showcased her physique in her Met Gala dress, which featured dazzling, off-the-shoulder silver straps, a very low-cut neckline, and a long, flowing skirt.

Sanchez, who styled her long brown locks in beach-like waves and accessorized with some eye-popping diamond earrings, also displayed her smooth complexion at the star-studded gala.

Her fresh visage sparked a frenzy on social media as many fans suggested she looked even younger than usual and speculated that she had undergone cosmetic enhancements ahead of the event.

Amid her latest ‘unrecognizable’ look, plastic surgeons weighed in on potential procedures she may have undergone to prepare for this evening.

Dr Mustafa Ahmed, who has not treated Sanchez, told the Daily Mail that he believes she may have had a non-invasive procedure after looking at photos of the author at the Oscars in March of this year versus now.

‘She may have had a non-invasive facelift, which can remove some skin and tighten the face,’ he explained.

The plastic surgeon added that he believes Sanchez may have had some upper cheek work done, such as fillers or fat grafting.

‘She’s probably also had some skin resurfacing done on her face, a combination of CO2 laser resurfacing plus radio frequency, and micro needling,’ he said.

‘CO2 laser is basically skin resurfacing,’ Dr Ahmed explained. ‘It removes the top layer of the skin, and then what that does is the bottom layer, the layer below is shinier.

‘It doesn’t have any kind of wrinkling, so she’s going to have that nice glow with the CO2 skin resurfacing.’

Another non-invasive procedure that the doctor suggested Sanchez could have gotten is RF micro-needling, which he described as building up collagen.

‘You put these needles inside the tissue, and they heat it up, and that then causes damage to the tissues so the body builds up collagen, and then that gives you a fuller face, makes you look younger,’ he dished.

Dr Lesley Rabach, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who also didn’t treat Sanchez, agreed, describing Sanchez’s skin as ‘beautiful and refreshed.’

‘This is likely a result of a skin resurfacing treatment, possibly Fraxel laser and chemical peels,’ she suggested.

The doctor said the brunette beauty could have also undergone tightening procedures along with Botox and filler refinement to ‘highlight her beautiful features.’

‘I am not convinced she has had any recent surgery, though I do believe she’s had a SMAS lift (a facelift targets the deep fibrous tissue layer beneath the skin to lift and tighten the face) in the past, a rhinoplasty and likely at least a brow-lift with blepharoplasties,’ she suggested.

Sanchez, along with her husband, Jeff Bezos, 62, are the lead sponsors of this year’s Met Gala and are also serving as honorary co-chairs, while Anna Wintour, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams are co-chairs.

Their involvement raised eyebrows within the fashion world, with many fans claiming they tarnished the fundraiser’s legacy.
