THIS is the terrifying moment hundreds of ravenous sharks in a “feeding frenzy” swarm around a surfer’s jet ski.
Brett Barley encountered the shiver of spinner sharks while on a leisurely fishing trip off the coast of Cape Point, North Carolina.
Shocking footage shows the rabid predators come launching out of the water from all angles as Barley bravely tears through the deadly stretch of water.
Dozens of the crazed beasts can be seen thrashing around in the water, honing in on a large school of baitfish.
Sharing the heartstopping GoPro footage on Instagram, Barley wrote: “A MASSIVE Shark Feeding Frenzy Engulfed my @seadoo while I was out fishing today!
“Hundreds of Sharks eating bait over a 4acre wide area… a full-on Nat Geo moment if I’ve ever had one!
“The things you see in Cape Hatteras never cease to amaze me!”
In one jawdropping clip, Barley can be heard saying: “This is crazy. This is insane. An absolute feeding frenzy.”
In another, he says: “If you see a lot of sharks above the surface, there’s probably more below,” before yelling: “Get me out of here!”
Despite getting a full dose of adrenaline from the dramatic experience, Barley said he hopes it will be a one-time thing.
“10/10 would not recommend being in the middle of a ball of Spinner Sharks though…I’m very fortunate one didn’t sky right into me or all my gear,” he said.
North Carolina is one of the top five states for unprovoked shark attacks, and a number of brushes with beasts have been captured on camera.
Terrifying footage taken last year showed a group of fishermen wrestle a giant 13ft great white in Frisco on Hatteras Island off the state’s coast.
Experienced fishermen Luke Beard and Jason Rosenfeld were patiently waiting for a bite over the weekend and were quickly flung into action.
Several others were captured running in to help once they reeled in the apex predator weighing up to 1,800lb.
Footage from the 35-minute ordeal showed the moment the group of men pulled the beast back into the water.
Three of the men grabbed hold of its tail as a fourth came to grip its dorsal fin – all of them only too aware of avoiding the shark’s deadly jaws containing rows of razor sharp teeth.
As they struggled to budge the creature, two other fishermen ran over to help push the animal further into the water, away from the shore.
They were hit with sudden panic when a wave rolled in and pushed the beast back towards them.
A number of the fishermen ran back up the beach as one brave man held on.
On his own, he managed to push the animal away into deeper water and the grateful shark quickly swam off.
Once it was clear the shark had no interest in them, the group of men raised their arms in the air in celebration of the rescue effort.
Beard later shared a photo of an injury he sustained in the shocking release operation.
He shared a picture of a severely grazed and red-raw thigh where his leg rubbed against the rough skin of the apex predator.
The caption read: “3 and 1/2 days later White shark rash. It sucks, but it’s totally worth it!”
