Lauren Sanchez looks unrecognizable at 2026 Met Gala as plastic surgeons weigh in on shocking new appearance

Lauren Sanchez has made a head-turning entrance at the Met Gala 2026.

The children’s author and philanthropist, 56, commanded the attention of photographers as she stepped out in a show-stopping navy blue Schiaparelli gown.

Undeterred by the protests that reached a fever pitch over the last 24 hours, Sanchez gladly posed on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art in the figure-hugging number.

The dress contained dazzling, off-the-shoulder silver straps, a very low-cut neckline that showcased her ample cleavage and a long, flowing skirt.

Sanchez, who styled her long brown locks in beach-like waves and accessorized with some eye-popping diamond earrings, showed off her smooth complexion at the star-studded gala.

Her fresh visage sparked a frenzy on social media as many fans suggested she looked even younger than usual and speculated that she had undergone cosmetic enhancements ahead of the event.

Amidst her latest ‘unrecognizable’ look, plastic surgeons weighed in on potential procedures she may have received to prepare for this evening.

Dr Mustafa Ahmed, who has not treated Sanchez, told the Daily Mail that he believes she may have had a non-invasive procedure after looking at photos of the author at the Oscars in March of this year versus now.

‘She may have had a non-invasive facelift, which can remove some skin and tighten the face,’ he explained.

The plastic surgeon added that he believes Sanchez may have had some upper cheek work done, such as fillers or fat grafting.

‘She’s probably also had some skin resurfacing done on her face, a combination of CO2 laser resurfacing plus radio frequency, and micro needling,’ he said.

‘CO2 laser is basically skin resurfacing,’ Dr Ahmed explained. ‘It removes the top layer of the skin, and then what that does is the bottom layer, the layer below is shinier.

‘It doesn’t have any kind of wrinkling, so she’s going to have that nice glow with the CO2 skin resurfacing.’

Another non-invasive procedure that the doctor said Sanchez could have gotten is RF micro-needling, which he described as building up collagen.

‘You put these needles inside the tissue, and they heat it up, and that then causes damage to the tissues so the body builds up collagen, and then that gives you a fuller face, makes you look younger,’ he dished.

Dr Lesley Rabach, a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon who also didn’t treat Sanchez, agreed, describing Sanchez’s skin as ‘beautiful and refreshed.’

‘This is likely a result of a skin resurfacing treatment, possibly Fraxel laser and chemical peels,’ she suggested.

The doctor said the brunette beauty could have also undergone tightening procedures along with Botox and filler refinement to ‘highlight her beautiful features.’

‘I am not convinced she has had any recent surgery, though I do believe she’s had a SMAS lift (a facelift targets the deep fibrous tissue layer beneath the skin to lift and tighten the face) in the past, a rhinoplasty and likely at least a brow-lift with blepharoplasties,’ she suggested.

The Daily Mail has reached out to Sanchez’s representative for comment.

Sanchez, along with her husband, Jeff Bezos, 62, are the lead sponsors of this year’s Met Gala and are also serving as honorary co-chairs, while Anna Wintour, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman and Venus Williams are co-chairs.

Their involvement has raised eyebrows within the fashion world, with many fans claiming they have tarnished the fundraiser’s legacy.

Earlier in the day, Sanchez attended the press conference for the 2026 Met Gala with former Vogue editor-in-chief, Wintour.

Speaking at the event, Sanchez praised the Met for its involvement in fashion and the arts while also stressing the importance of financing the industry.

‘The Met has always understood something the rest of the world is finally catching up to, fashion is art,’ she said.

‘The future of that art deserves investment,’ Sanchez, who wed Bezos in a headline-making wedding in Venice, Italy, in June last year, added.

‘That’s why the Bezos Earth Fund is backing scientists, reimagining what fabric can be, sustainable silk grown in labs. It is happening.’

During an appearance on the Today show in March, Sanchez said being involved in the planning for the Met Gala had been ‘such a fun and meaningful experience.’

Speaking to co-host Craig Melvin, she gushed: ‘When Anna [Wintour] called me and said, “Do you want to co-chair and also be the sponsors of the Met?” I was so honored.’

‘These designers are true artists,’ she continued.

‘[Elsa] Schiaparelli was best friends with Salvador Dali, and his medium was a canvas, and hers was clothing.

‘It’s going to be incredible to see what everyone wears and to be able to really honor all these designers. I cannot wait.’

Tonight’s event marks the second time Sanchez has appeared at the Met Gala.

The mom-of-three made her first appearance at the fashion event in 2024, when the dress code was The Garden of Time.

At the time, Sanchez stepped out in a strapless black velvet Oscar de la Renta ball gown, which featured a bell-shaped skirt covered in a rose mosaic of 2,000 hand-painted white plexiglass shards.

Sanchez revealed she was sent several options for the event by designers Fernando Garcia and Laura Kim, all of which were much more in keeping with her normal style.

Speaking to Vogue, Sanchez said she wanted to make a move away from her typical ‘extremely sexy, low cut’ looks.

‘If you saw [the other options], you’d be like, “Oh, that’s very Lauren” – extremely sexy, low cut,’ she said to Vogue.

‘I go, “No, I think I’m going to try something different.”‘

While Sanchez did not walk the carpet with her then-fiancé, he did join her at the top of the iconic Met Museum steps for a quick photo before they made their way inside the event.
