THERE’S a lot to worry about in the world today, but don’t let it weigh you down.
As we mark Stress Awareness Month, here are some steps you can take to help lighten the load.
PARK LIFE: Heading out for a 15-minute walk can slash stress hormones and clear your head.
Go somewhere green, where trees and fresh air will help to reset your brain.
Being around other people can also give you a boost. Try a free Parkrun — 5km runs held all over the country on Saturday mornings.
Or find out about Park Yoga, which is also free, and held in more than 50 parks (parkyoga.co).
PING PANIC: Doomscrolling will keep your brain on high alert and make it hard to switch off.
Silence non-essential notifications, take regular phone breaks and skip social media first thing in the morning.
Give your mind some breathing room to feel more focused and less anxious.
EXPLORE YOUR FREE-LINGS: The Stress Management Society is keen to make us all less stressed, and it has free tools to help people work through their feelings.
Head to the ‘Resources’ tab at stress.org.uk for free guides to managing overload and ideas to help you reclaim your calm, from a 30-day wellness challenge to help with talking about stress.
LISTEN UP: Finding some time during your day to listen to a calming podcast or app is one way that technology can tame stress.
The free CALMzone app, from the Campaign Against Living Miserably, is packed with exercises to relieve anxiety, stress and panic.
The app from meditofoundation.org is also free and has meditation and mindfulness stories and exercises.
ART ATTACK: Visiting a museum or art gallery could put you in the picture of health by helping to lower levels of the stress hormone cortisol by more than a fifth.
In the UK, you can enjoy this health boost for free.
Visit moneysavingexpert.com /deals/free-museums-and-art-galleries to find a list of free venues to visit.
