CONTROVERSIAL 20mph zones are set to increase in certain parts of the country – and taxpayers are being expected to foot the bill.
For some Brits, council tax is set to rise by the maximum amount to fund more hated 20mph speed limits – with two councils already voting to enforce the measure.

Some residents in Hertfordshire and Gloucestershire will see their bills rise by £84 per year from April – as the local authorities look to raise £3.5million for more 20mph zones, according to The Telegraph.
In 2023, the Welsh Government announced plans to lower the default speed limit from 30mph to 20mph, sparking major public backlash. Some areas have already reverted back to the 30mph limit.
In Hertfordshire, a Reform councillor blasted the scheme as an “unaffordable vanity project“, but the Lib Dem council insisted it would reassure families that their kids will be safer walking to school.
So, as 20mph speed limits look to become more commonplace across the country, would you be happy to pay extra council tax for the controversial zones?
