GETTING a good night’s sleep is a priority for most people, which is why investing in a new mattress feels like such a mammoth task — not to mention a huge expense.
I got my hands on the DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress to test, and I was overwhelmingly impressed. Keep reading to find out why.
DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress, from £349
DreamCloud isn’t as widely known as some of its popular rivals — in fact, it wasn’t a brand I’d heard of before testing.
With no preconceived notions about the brand or what to expect, it was pretty much a blind test.
I’ve previously tested pocket sprung and hybrid mattresses, so I was curious to see how this one stacked up.
Pros:
- Inflated very quickly once unboxed
- Firm but bouncy
- Very supportive
- Feels luxurious
- Good amount of depth
Cons:
Rating: 9/10
Q&A Quickfire: DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress
How much is the DreamCloud Hybrid mattress? The standard DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress I tested is £349 for a single, £499 for a double, £599 for a king and £699 for a super king size.
Who is the DreamCloud mattress best for? The DreamCloud is ideal if you are a side or back sleeper, or suffer from back pain and need firmer support.
What we loved: This mattress really ticks all the boxes if you are after something firm. I loved how thick the mattress is and how cushioned you feel while sleeping; it really leaves you feeling cocooned. It’s also good value for money, and you get a 365-night home trial and a forever warranty.
What we didn’t: It does feel heavier than other hybrid mattresses I’ve tried, though this shouldn’t matter too much once you’ve dragged it to your bed.
First impressions
DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress, from £349
Like many other sleep brands, your DreamCloud mattress arrives vacuum-packed and rolled into a box.
This makes it very easy to manoeuvre around your house, or in my case, up a steep flight of stairs.
I managed to do this on my own, but the box is heavy, so if you’re offered help, I wouldn’t turn it down.
DreamCloud also offer an old mattress removal service for extra convenience, but I didn’t need it.
I appreciated the added touch of the box cutter tool that came with it for opening the plastic vacuum wrap.
The instant it was unwrapped, it started to inflate rapidly.
I couldn’t resist a quick test, launching myself across the semi-inflated mattress, which already felt extremely well cushioned and soft.
It took a few hours to inflate fully, as the instructions outlined.
Once it was, the five-layered hybrid mattress was heavier than I expected (in a good way). This makes it slightly harder to position, but the base design has side pull grips to help you easily move it about.
I really like its luxurious design, too: it has a chic navy base encapsulating the spring and foam layers supporting you as you sleep, and a breathable quilted top layer that you sleep on.
Is the DreamCloud mattress good for lower back pain?
DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress, from £349
For anyone who likes a medium-to-firm mattress, I would say this ticks the boxes — even more than my previous hybrid mattress from a very well-known brand.
The DreamCloud Hybrid is one of the firmest mattresses I have ever tried, something I love and appreciate.
It feels sumptuous to lie on — I move around and starfish as I sleep, so finding a bed that can support that much movement is really important.
One of the very first mattresses I ever bought was a pocket spring model, and you realise very quickly the necessity of needing a foam layer for added comfort and padding.
With this DreamCloud, you get multiple cushioning layers.
The springs are vital, but the foam layers are where the comfort is, and Dreamcloud hasn’t skimped in this area.
I was intrigued by how supported I felt, so I did some research on the mattress’s construction.
Here’s the science bit: the DreamCloud has a Dynamic Transition Layer, which is “designed to smoothly transition between comfort and support layers”.
It’s the middle layer that really helps with alignment, and why I felt so supported when I was lying on it.
Does it deliver?
DreamCloud Hybrid Mattress, from £349
When you compare the DreamCloud mattress to rival popular alternatives, it stacks up in every department.
In terms of pricing, the DreamCloud is competitive, and I do think you get a very well-made product for the price.
Many of the key features of the design (five layers, advanced technology, cutting-edge materials) cost far more elsewhere.
The forever warranty is a bonus, as are perks like the 365-night trial and free delivery and return offers.
DreamCloud mattress: My verdict
From the first night, this mattress turned my bedtime routine into the most relaxing moment of the day.
When I sleep on the DreamCloud mattress, I sink into comfort and drift into a calm sleep and wake up feeling refreshed.
I would highly recommend the mattress if you are looking to upgrade your sleep setup. The quality and composition are excellent.
