The other was later recovered.

In separate blunders, two Taser cartridges have been permanently lost.

And 25 rounds of ammunition — 9mm and 5.56mm bullets — vanished in five years to April 2025.

In the same period South Yorkshire and West Midlands reported no losses of firearms, Tasers or ammunition.

On Saturday, we told how police from a separate Met unit — Royalty and Security Protection Command — left guns outside the home of London Mayor Sir Sadiq Khan.

A pregnant woman found the bag.

Five officers have been temporarily relieved of their duties.

Retired Det Chief Insp Mick Neville said of the MO19 losses: “These will further dent trust and confidence.

“It seems like an element of sloppiness has crept into the Met’s firearms unit.

“An urgent audit is needed.”
