A STRICTLY star has detailed his terrifying cancer scare after abnormalities and bowel growths were detected during a routine screening.
Iwan Thomas, who appeared on Strictly Come Dancing back in 2015, has revealed that after a routine bowel screening, abnormalities were found and he needed to have a procedure.
The former British Olympic 400m runner, explained how after the procedure, which was a colonoscopy, the doctors revealed that he had several growths.
In his video, he explained how he was making the video to help people and reach the people that need it.
“I got sent a bowel screening test from the NHS and I ignored it.
“Anyway, luckily for me, they wrote back and they said ‘do the test, do it’, so I did it, sent it off and within days they’ve got me in because there’s some abnormalities. Something’s not right.”
He went on to reveal: “Anyway, I had a colonoscopy, and during the procedure they found three growths.
“One which was big and didn’t look great. So they sent that off for a biopsy and I’ve just had the results.
“And their words were ‘luckily you came in when you did, this could have been very different.
“So the growth had began to show signs of becoming cancerous, and they said they’ve stemmed it and they’ve got rid of it, and finger’s crossed, that’s the end of it.”
Iwan then urged that if any of his followers were experiencing any symptoms, they should get checked out.
He noted how he did have symptoms, but ignored them.
Meanwhile, in the caption he wrote: “A tricky one this because it’s very personal, but I feel I have to share as it might just reach one person that needs to hear it.
“When it comes to our health, it’s very easy to bury our heads in the sand and ignore symptoms because we are scared. It’s okay to be scared and sometimes we may hear things we don’t want to hear but take it from me if something doesn’t seem right get it checked out.
“This wasn’t the nicest procedure to go through but I’m so glad I did because if I left it much longer, it could have been a very different outcome.
“A huge shout out to our wonderful NHS. Take care everybody… TAKE THE TEST. Much love.”
Fans and friends flocked to the comments to support Iwan.
One fan penned: “Glad you’re ok man and well done, very important message to get out.”
Another said: “Such an important message mate and I’m so glad you got on top of it all early brother.”
While a third added: “So sorry you’ve been going through this. Brave of you to share. I’m sure you will help lots of people. Sending lots of love.”
