
A MAN has tragically died after he was allegedly assaulted outside a Wetherspoons pub – as cops launch a murder probe.
The victim, 37, was rushed to hospital in a “life-threatening” condition after the alleged attack in Ebbw Vale, South Wales, last weekend.
Emergency crews were scrambled to The Picture House between 11.30pm on Friday and 12.15am on Saturday.
Officers rushed to the scene following reports of an assault outside the Wetherspoons.
Staff from the Welsh Ambulance Service treated a man on Bethcar Street, who was later rushed to hospital with “life-threatening” injuries.
Issuing a tragic update last night, Gwent Police confirmed the 37-year-old had tragically died.
A 30-year-old man, from Cardiff, was initially arrested in connection with the incident.
He has now been arrested on suspicion of murder and remains in police custody being questioned, the force said.
An investigation into what happened is “continuing at pace”, officers added.
Police have urged anyone who witnessed the alleged assault, or has relevant CCTV or dashcam footage, to get in touch.
In a statement, Gwent Police said: “A man has died following a report of an assault in Ebbw Vale.
“The 37-year-old, from Tredegar, had been in a life-threatening condition in hospital.
“A Cardiff man, who had already been arrested in connection with the incident, has now been arrested on suspicion of murder.
“The 30-year-old remains in police custody being questioned.
“Officers went to The Picture House in Bethcar Street, between 11.30pm on Friday 20 February and 12.15am on Saturday 21 February, following reports of an assault outside the pub.
“Enquiries are ongoing and anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101, quoting 2600055384.”
