DOG-OWNERS across the UK are urged to check the rules of their local beach to prevent fines this summer.
As the warmer weather arrives, many of us head to the nearest coastal spot to enjoy the sunshine on a sandy beach.

However, there is one member of the family who may find themselves uninvited to the next seaside day out.
Over the next few months, a seasonal dog ban comes into force across many beaches around the UK coast.
The annual restrictions were introduced by local councils and stay in place over the warmer months, lasting from May 1 to September 30 across the UK.
Some bans begin a little later, starting from May 15.
During this time, dogs may be banned entirely from specific beaches, restricted to certain zones, required to stay on leads, or only allowed on the sand during particular hours of the day.
The rules are enforced through Public Spaces Protection Orders, and those who choose to ignore them could be slapped with fines up to £1,000.
Typically, however, the on-the-spot fine is £100.
Beaches across the UK have different restrictions as the decision to enforce complete bans or partial bans is at the discretion of the local council.
During the popular summer months, the ban aims to keep beaches clean and safe over the season, especially with the increase of children visiting the coast.
Although most dog-owners are careful to clean up after their pooches, poo left on beaches can cause a major health hazard, especially during the height of busy summer periods.
Excessive dog waste in the sea can affect water quality and jeopardise the coastal area’s Blue Flag status.
The ban also looks to protect certain wildlife occupying beaches over the summer months.
The restrictions regarding dogs on beaches do not apply to guide dogs.
Dog-owners are urged to check with their local councils to see if their furry friends can still visit the local beach, and are reminded that regulations often change.
There is also a handy guide from The Beach Guide that offers an extensive list of all UK beaches and their decisions regarding the ban – so make sure to check it out.
