‘You couldn’t write it’ – Scotland star John McGinn ‘BANNED’ from World Cup qualifying celebrations

And the Tartan Army won out in a dramatic 4-2 clash which included a Scott McTominay bicycle kick, Danish red card, Kieran Tierney screamer and a Kenny McLean halfway line goal.

The win sparked jubilant scenes at Hampden Park as Scotland booked their spot in the World Cup finals for the first time since 1998.

However, Aston Villa star McGinn was not allowed to celebrate with his team-mates.

That was because he was pulled aside for a drugs test.

Uefa select random players following matches for a doping control test which sees blood and urine samples taken to ensure players do not take performance-enhancing drugs.

McGinn, 31, was the unfortunate name to come out of the hat after Scotland’s victory.

This therefore meant he was unable to join his team-mates in the dressing room in the immediate aftermath.

And a rueful McGinn took to Instagram to voice his frustrations.

He took a selfie of himself with a disappointed face, as he waited to do the tests.

McGinn’s story was captioned: “Drug test, not allowed in the changing room, can’t write it,” followed by a laughing emoji.

Before that McGinn was live on the BBC when he made a quip about being selected for a drugs test.

Having been asked by presenter Kelly Cates about the tournament next summer, he joked: “Well I’m drug testing, it’s always me.

“I must have a look about me.”

Fortunately, McGinn was able to celebrate with team-mates and fans after swapping shirts and was seen waving around a Scottish flag on the pitch.
