You Are Free to Speak Whatever We Let You Say – HotAir

David used this Xweet from the French Mission to the United Nations in his earlier post on NPR, PBS, and state media.

I’ve seen it a couple of times today, but nowhere more compelling than on Mark Steyn’s Steyn Online post about it. If anyone has felt the burden of the state and state actors pressing viciously hard against him, it’s been that dear man.

Mark posted it under a column he titled ‘Choosing Sides, ‘ and it started out like this:

~An official message from the French government via its mission to the United Nations:

[Insert Xweet]

That’s a definition of free speech we can all get behind! You have the right to say whatever you want as long as the government has graciously agreed to permit it.

What’s somewhat dispiriting about the brazen authoritarianism of the above is that, after my hard-fought battle in Canada, I am well aware that, wherever you live, half your neighbours will accept that this definition sounds eminently reasonable.

What does that boil down to in practice? Well, in order to prevent you noticing that a significant proportion of the chaps who enjoy stabbing and raping your daughters seem to be “migrants”, among the things Keir Starmer is declaring to be “illegal content” is “Islamophobia“:

And he launches into an excoriation of what Europe has become, and yet one is not allowed to speak of it.

…The streets of every major European city – and indeed multiple no-name medium-sized towns – have been surrendered to savages and barbarians from the most worthless cultures on earth. This week, for example, an American tourist visited Milan, a hub of art and fashion and sport, and a city with the third highest number of millionaires in Europe. But, as I had cause to reflect while being treated there for one of my many attacchi di cuore, it’s now a craphole. So the American gets stabbed in the throat by three Moroccan lads, and can be heard telling his first-aid responders, “I don’t want to die.”

I was already very much in the mood for writing something along these lines as I tried to clear emails and check different feeds.

Take, for instance, the German blogger I use often as a source of clarity for what’s really is going on.

Eugyppius sent the most alarming email today, and it pertained to a post I wrote earlier in the week. The subject concerned attempts to seat two ideologically extreme judges on Germany’s constitutional court, so that the Social Democrats (SPD), former Chancellor Olaf Scholz’s party, could circumvent the legislative process to ban the second-largest party in the country, the Alternative for Germany (AfD). They would use a progressively packed court to do it instead.

The savvy and normally even-keeled blogger had explained what they thought was the plan last week, but something must have occurred in the interim that has alarmed them mightily.

The Social Democrats are plotting a judicial putsch to seize control of the German government

I hereby retract my last assessment.

The Social Democrats are entirely serious about banning Alternative für Deutschland, the only viable populist opposition party in Germany. The German left seem to believe that our highest court will enact a ban if their hard-left nominees to that court are approved. The SPD have put forward these nominees precisely to stack the court and prepare the way for prohibiting the second-largest political party in the Federal Republic.

Getting rid of the AfD is only a secondary goal. That’s what I failed to realise before, and why I got this wrong. The real aim is to use the pretense of an AfD ban to seize control of the government. As soon as the AfD are prohibited, their MPs will disappear from the Bundestag, giving the three left parties – the SPD, the Greens and Die Linke – an outright majority. These parties will oust Friedrich Merz via a constructive vote of no confidence and make SPD chairman Lars Klingbeil Chancellor in his place. Klingbeil will then form a red-red-green government and appoint a hard-left Minister of the Interior, who will use all the political enforcement mechanisms of the German state to go after the CDU in turn.

A legal coup of this nature would be irreversible by conventional means, and it would have consequences extending well beyond the next federal elections in 2029. Superficially, Germany would retain the same constitutional framework, yet the left would secure for itself an effectively permanent and unshakeable parliamentary majority. We would all wake up in a soft socialist dictatorship, with the rebranded DDR-era Socialist Unity Party among the three permanent sharers in power.

Tin foil hat?

Well, I don’t know. In the same post, I listed numerous examples where government officials associated with the SPD were already actively working to disenfranchise AfD members from their positions as police officers and teachers. AfD membership is seen as disqualifying in their eyes for any sort of public service job.

AfD members cannot possess firearms.

Members of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party cannot legally possess firearms under the country’s weapons law because the party has been deemed a suspected extremist group.

The Dusseldorf Administrative Court ruled on Monday that a married couple must surrender all of their firearms, dismissing a lawsuit brought by the couple over the revocation of their firearms possession permits.

They started going after registered firearms of AfD members who had hunting licenses, too.

…So far, five AfD members have received a notice that their gun license would be revoked, while another member voluntarily returned his license after a revocation procedure was initiated. Another 51 cases are currently being examined by authorities, according to data released by the Saxony-Anhalt Interior Ministry in response to a request for information from the Left Party.

Hunters and sport shooters will also have their gun licenses canceled by authorities. In total, there are 74 members of the AfD in Saxony-Anhalt that hold a firearms license, with 49 registered as sport shooters and 25 as hunters.

Mean tweets are felonies.

And kicking the door in at 6 in the morning is an effective state terror tool they’re already employing.

So, I honestly can’t say this is all that far-fetched a fear, because they are already well on their way to it.

Last fall, German officials, unaware they were on their way to dang-near their own electoral Waterloo, were fussing about how they were going to freeze out Austria if the right-wing party, which won those elections, was actually allowed to participate in the government.

This is some crazy, smoking-man, third-rate spy thriller stuff, but it’s all real.

I think what they cannot tolerate is being seen orchestrating it, hence the dystopian, Big Brother edicts even as they mouth freedom platitudes.

You know the British are. We’ve all talked about it here.

And the media control is so ferocious.

I can’t even say they’re creeping ever closer to a police state. It appears that they are striding forward with confidence in the purity of their objectives.

…A YouTube France executive reveals that perfectly legal content is CENSORED at the SIMPLE REQUEST of European officials if deemed “harmful.”

No need for judicial process, an email is enough.

Widespread CENSORSHIP.

As Steyn said, they’ve clearly chosen their side.
