Christian Eriksen has been the subject of a stunning approach from ambitious Championship club Wrexham.
After securing three straight promotions, Wrexham are keen to make a significant impression in the second tier and Mail Sport can reveal they attempted to pull off a remarkable coup by signing Eriksen, who left Manchester United this summer and is one of the best midfielders of his generation.
While Eriksen was impressed by the proposal, the 33-year-old wants to continue his career in a top-flight competition.
It is understood he has been approached by clubs from Saudi Arabia, the United States, Turkey and Brazil.
Eriksen’s representative Martin Schoots told Mail Sport: ‘Wrexham are really upgrading everything both on and off the field, and it is a hugely impressive project, as you can see from the presence of people like [CEO] Michael Williamson there.
‘But Christian still wants to play in a first-tier competition and he absolutely wants to stay in Western Europe. There are some contacts going on but it has to suit both sides.’

Rob McElhenney and Ryan Reynolds are keen to make an impression on the Championship this season

Eriksen, who is one of Denmark’s greatest ever players, left the Red Devils earlier this summer
Williamson was appointed Wrexham CEO in May 2024 and the American has also worked for Inter Milan, as well as DC United and Miami FC in his homeland.
When superstar actors Reynolds and McElhenney took over control of the north Walian club in 2021, they were languishing in the National League.
But now just three years later, the Red Dragons are preparing for life in English football’s second tier after three consecutive promotions.
And it seems they have no plans of stagnating, with the club making a number of ambitious signings already this summer.
Just this week they completed the signing of Empoli defender Liberato Cacace after agreeing a £2.16million fee with the Italian club.
They have also been linked with sensational moves for Jamie Vardy and Fulham midfielder Tom Cairney, with Eriksen the latest globally-recognised star targeted by the Championship side.
Eriksen is one of Denmark’s greatest players, winning 144 caps and scoring 46 goals for his country.

Wrexham have enjoyed three consecutive promotions and will play in the Championship this season
He joined Manchester United in 2022 following an impressive stint at Brentford, who took a chance on the Dane after he collapsed on the pitch at Euro 2020.
The playmaker enjoyed a successful first season at Old Trafford playing alongside Casemiro in midfield, but later lost his spot and was reduced to just 23 Premier League appearances for the club last season.
With his contract up this summer, Eriksen bid farewell to United fans with a goal scored on his final appearance for the club on the last day of the season, rifling a penalty home against Aston Villa.
Before joining United in 2022, he played for Ajax, Tottenham, Inter and Brentford.
He has won eight trophies, including the Serie A title and the FA Cup with United. Eriksen was also named Tottenham’s player of the year in 2014 and 2015.
