Martina Boreland, who hails from Prince Edward Island in Canada, decided to give away her engagement ring online, saying she “didn’t need it anymore”.

According to CTV News, Martina parted with the ring, generously posting her plans to give it away for free on Facebook.

“I wanted to give someone something really meaningful and special that they could share with the love of their life, especially around Christmas,” she told CTV News.

The woman, who had previously been married, explained that she was looking for someone who was hardworking and saving up for a ring.

Despite receiving dozens of replies on her giveaway post, one person’s message stuck out.

Kalen Macadam contacted Martina, sharing his hopes to use the ring to propose to his partner, Amanda Rogers.

“She’s the definition of my world, she changed me for the better and brought me out of such a dark spot in my life,” Macadam’s message about Rogers read.

“She gave me more than I ever thought anyone ever could… I’ve been trying and trying to save up for a ring for her, but life just won’t let me.”

He went on to explain that he had been wanting to propose to his partner for a very long time, saying that Martina’s kind gesture “melted” his heart.

“It’s just bills and everything else like that is simply more important, taking care of the children,” he added.

Kalen went on to say gesture took a financial burden off his family’s shoulders.

After Martina picked Kalen as her lucky winner, the two met in person to facilitate the handoff.

And Facebook has proven to be a steadfast in Kalen’s life as it was also where he met his now-fiancée.

After four years together, he decided to propose on Christmas day.

“I don’t think I could ask for a better woman, nor would I want to,” he told CTV News.
