A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a woman in her 80s was stabbed to death outside her home.
Cops raced to Plumstead in south-east London early yesterday morning after receiving reports of a man with a knife.
A woman in her 80s with serious injuries was found at the scene.
Another man was also reportedly threatened with a knife but sustained no injuries, cops said.
The woman was rushed to hospital to receive treatment but, despite the best efforts of medics, she tragically died.
A man in his 60s has since been arrested after he attended a nearby police station a short while later.
It is believed the suspect and the woman were known to each other.
Cops said the suspect was taken to hospital and is receiving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The force is not looking for any further suspects.
Detective Inspector Dean Grice, who is leading the Met’s investigation, said the case was “a deeply tragic incident.”
He added “Our thoughts remain firmly with the victim’s family during this difficult time.”
“A prompt and co-ordinated investigation has now been launched to establish the full circumstances and specialist officers are continuing to support the family throughout.”
Detective Superintendent James Derham, who leads policing in the local area, said: “At this stage, we believe that this was an isolated incident and I want to reassure the community that there is no wider risk to the public.”
