A woman has been airlifted to hospital with life-changing injuries after she was attacked by a dog – thought to be an XL Bully.
Emergency services were called at about 4.15pm on Thursday after the victim was bitten at a home in Sutton Avenue, Bristol.
The woman, believed to be in her 40s, was taken to hospital with injuries described as potentially life-changing.
Officers used protective shields to ensure their own safety while entering the address.
Police remain at the scene and the dog is secured at the property pending the arrival of specialist dog handlers.

An Avon and Somerset Police statement said: ‘Emergency services were called at about 4.15pm on Thursday 10 April after a woman was bitten by a dog at a home in Sutton Avenue, Bristol.
‘The woman, believed to be in her forties, has gone to hospital by land ambulance, with injuries currently described as potentially life-changing.
‘Officers used protective shields to ensure their own safety while entering the address.
‘Police remain at the scene and the dog is secured at the property pending the arrival of specialist dog handlers.’
