Woman dies in ‘freak accident’ while cleaning her car after getting stuck in window

A woman has tragically died in a freak accident after getting stuck in a window while cleaning her car.

Bernadette Delmotte was found dead in her red Fiat 500 in the small French village of Bissy-sur-Fley.

Investigating cops initially struggled to explain how Bernadette, who was in her 60s, died.

The woman’s brother,  François, told local media that cops were asking: ‘What the hell happened?’

Her friend Béatrice added: ‘It was so mysterious. We thought maybe she had a heart attack, or that someone – a madman – had come by to steal her car and hurt her.

‘But we could never have imagined what really happened.’

Bernadette is believed to have leaned through the window to reach the handbrake and inadvertently pressed the car’s automatic window control button.

The window then rose up and fatally crushed her neck.

Béatrice said of the June 13 tragedy: ‘It seems the handbrake hadn’t been applied. The car then began to roll backward. To stop it, Bernadette threw herself through the open window to stop it from going any further.

‘But her hand moved over the window control, and by the time she straightened up, the window stopped on her neck.’

An autopsy ruled she had died of asphyxiation, with investigators ruling out foul play.

Her tragic death left her family reeling. Her brother has since written to Fiat to explain his sister’s death.

François told local media: ‘I am not in the process of claiming compensation, because that will not give me back my sister.

‘I simply want to start thinking about it to avoid further tragedies.’
