AN INVESTIGATION has been launched after a woman died when a fire engulfed her bungalow.

Emergency services were called to a house in Sheffield at around 10.45pm on Saturday December 27.

Tragically, despite the service’s best efforts, the woman was declared dead at the scene.

The bungalow was on a cul-de-sac in the Upperthorpe area of Sheffield.

The South Yorkshire Fire Service said that a woman was taken out of the bungalow but could not be saved.

An investigation into the fire is ongoing but the cause is currently unknown.

A spokesperson for the fire service said: “A woman was brought out of the property, but she sadly died at the scene.

“Firefighters left the incident shortly after midnight.

“An investigation into the cause of the fire is now underway.”

Many people have shared messages of sympathy and condolences on social media.

One person said: “So sad this is awful my heart goes out to her family.”

While another wrote: “So sad god bless her.”

This news comes just a day after a mother and her two young children died in a horror house fire after their hero dad was dragged away from the blaze.

Mum Fionnghuala Shearman, – known as Nu – and her two young children, aged four and seven, tragically died after they were trapped inside the burning property on Boxing Day.

Emergency services scrambled to the scene as the blaze consumed the Cotswold stone cottage in Stroud, Gloucestershire, at about 3am on Friday.

The dad Tom – a serving police officer – managed to escape before heartbreakingly trying to get back into the house in a bid to save his family.

Fashion designer Nu, 38, remained trapped inside with daughter Eve, seven, and son Ohner, four, as tragedy struck over the Christmas period.

It is understood her husband battled through fire and smoke to try to rescue his wife and children, and had to be dragged away by neighbours who feared he too would die in the inferno.

The mum’s body has been recovered but the bodies of the children have sadly not yet been removed from the house as the property is too unstable.
