Woman, 89, is killed by recycling lorry ‘while standing on street’: Driver is arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving

A man has been arrested after an 89-year-old woman was killed following a huge collision with a recycling lorry in a quiet seaside town.

The pensioner, who has not yet been named, had been standing on Brookes Street near Caroline Road in Llandudno, north Wales, when the incident occurred at around 9am today.

Medics in an air ambulance scrambled to the scene, but the woman was tragically pronounced dead before they could lift her to hospital.

A white DAF truck was held behind a police cordon after the incident, with the road shut off to traffic as forensic officers carried out examinations.

Conwy County Council confirmed in a statement earlier today that one of its recycling trucks had been involved in a ‘serious collision’.

A man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and has since been taken into custody.

Sergeant Duncan Logan of North Wales Police has urged anyone who can assist their investigations to make themselves known.

He said: ‘The lady’s next of kin have been informed and are being supported by officers, and our thoughts and sympathies are very much with them at this incredibly difficult time.
