A pensioner has been found dead on Christmas Day – as a 63-year-old woman is arrested on suspicion of murder.
The retired lady, who was in her eighties, was assaulted at a flat in the town of Devizes, Wiltshire, this morning.
Wiltshire Police and the South Western Ambulance Service were called at around 8.10am to the property on Keepers Road.
But despite their best efforts, the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene. Officers are still working to identify her next of kin.
Her attacker, who was known to her, was taken to hospital with injuries not thought to be life-changing and will soon be questioned.
Detectives are not looking for anybody else in connection with the assault.
A cordon has been set up at the property and is likely to remain in place for the rest of today and into Boxing Day tomorrow as investigations continue.
DI Alan Smith, from the Major Crime Investigation Team, said: ‘This is a tragic incident in which an elderly woman has lost her life on Christmas Day.
