Woman, 22, in hospital after car ploughed into railings as man, 23, arrested in attempted murder probe

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder following a crash in which a car collided with railings.

Sussex police were called to a serious incident near St Helen’s Road in Hastings at about 12.27am on January 18.

The driver allegedly fled the scene and the passenger, a 22-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with “serious but not life-threatening” “injuries, according to officers.

Drivers are warned the A21 Sedlescombe Road has been closed since 5.30 this morning.

A 23-year-old man from the local area was located at a nearby address and was arrested on suspicion of attempted murder in relation to the crash.

He remains in police custody as officers continue their investigations.

A spokesman for the force said: “Officers were called about 12.27am on Sunday 18 January after a car collided with railings in St Helen’s Road.

“Anyone who saw what happened, or capture any relevant mobile, dash cam or CCTV footage, is asked to report it online or call 101, quoting Operation Fleetwood.”
