Woke cash-strapped council making workers play Diversity Bingo to prove they know its inclusive language

A WOKE local authority is making workers play Diversity Bingo to prove they know its inclusive language policies.

Pembrokeshire Council put together the game to help staff grasp concepts such as hate crimes and ageism.

Players must try to find colleagues who can explain 25 such terms related to equality, diversity, and inclusion (EDI).

It is understood that Diversity Bingo is used at EDI training sessions paid for by taxpayers.

Other terms in the game include “cyber bullying”, “ethnicity”, “gender fluid”, “Islamophobia” and “bullying”. After playing, staff have to fill out a debriefing sheet, which asks: “What did you learn about this group, yourself, or another participant through this activity?”

Officials said in a Freedom of Information response: “EDI-related courses are quality- checked by experts to ensure the use of language is inclusive.”

The sessions are part of a plan by the Welsh local authority, which is £192million in debt, to “eliminate discrimination, harassment and victimisation” at work.

Tory MP Sir Alec Shelbrooke fumed: “The public are interested in reducing council tax, emptying bins, repairing roads and providing public services.

“Local residents have every right to be angry about this.”

Pembrokeshire Council said: “Our priority is to meet our legal obligations around EDI.”
