Lionel Messi and Argentina got their chance to defend the title after winning Copa America in 2024.
However, the defending World Cup champions will not have the chance to defend their Finalissima crown this year.
SunSport can reveal why the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain has been cancelled.
Why is the Finalissima between Argentina and Spain cancelled?
The Finalissima was cancelled due to the current political situation ongoing in the Middle East.
The final between Argentina and Spain was set to take place in Doha on March 27.
A statement from UEFA said that the match was cancelled due to the: “current political situation in the region.”
Other locations such as Miami, Montevideo, Riyadh, Barcelona and London were discussed as possible locations for the match to move to.
However, the UEFA statement read that they could not come to an agreement over a new location with Argentina.
