Why is Lorraine not on today?

The last episode of Lorraine before the show took a planned break was on Friday, March 6, 2026.

At the start of this year, an ITV shake-up came into force, with Lorraine cut to a 30-week seasonal schedule, as well as the episodes moving to a 30-minute slot instead of the previous hour.

In May 2025, managing director of ITV’s Media and Entertainment Division, Kevin Lygo, said: “Daytime is a really important part of what we do, and these scheduling and production changes will enable us to continue to deliver a schedule providing viewers with the news, debate and discussion they love from the presenters they know and trust, as well as generating savings which will allow us to reinvest across the programme budget in other genres.”

He added: “Daytime has been a core element of ITV’s schedule for over 40 years and these changes will set ITV up to continue to bring viewers award-winning news, views and discussion as we enter our eighth decade.”

DARK DAYS

ITV chaos as fuming staff slam ‘dark and noisy’ building amid job cuts

In December 2025, addressing these changes, Lorraine Kelly told the Standard: “My show’s been on at half past eight, quarter to nine, and nine o’clock, 10 past nine…

“So hopefully the audience will still stay with us, because that’s the most important thing to me, that the audience are still enjoying what I do, and the fact that people are so kind and they still watch after all these years and when I go out and about, people greet me like their friend, which is really, really lovely, and I don’t think that happens to all that many people.

“You know that you’ve got that connection, primarily because I’ve been doing it for so long, but it’s something that I never, ever take for granted and I never take any, any of this for granted. I really don’t, because it’s an honour.”

With Lorraine not on the ITV schedule, Good Morning Britain, which starts at 6am, was extended by half an hour for the first week.

Loose Women is also making way for the same reason.

When is Lorraine returning on ITV?

Lorraine was under the weather, having lost her voice ahead of her chat show temporarily going off air.

This meant she was unable to host the two episodes leading up to the planned schedule break.

On Friday, March 6, Christine Lampard and Ben Shephard stepped in to take over presenting duties on Lorraine.

At the end of the show, Christine told viewers: “That’s all for today here, Lorraine will be back in a few weeks’ time. Have a lovely weekend, we’ll see you soon!”

Lorraine also took to Instagram to share an update with her fans.

The week after she took ill, she wrote: “I am feeling a whole lot better. But this has been a bad lurgy. If you’re going through it yourself, you have my sympathy. It’s a tough one. But I am getting there.”

Lorraine continued: “I will be off for a good few weeks. Not because I am not well, but because of course the changes to the show.

“We now do 30 weeks a year. So I won’t see you for a wee while, but I want to thank you for sticking with me through all the changes.

“I hope to see you when I am back on air. I never take it for granted and I really, really, really appreciate you tuning in. Thanks so so much.”

Fans were quick to take to social media and share how much they miss their morning fix of Lorraine.

One wrote: “I miss Lorraine. I think she’s lovely and honest. I wish you all the best, Lorraine and hope to see you on TV soon. Xx”

A second said: “The loss of Lorraine means there is another hour of news, or should I say bad news, Lorraine’s show redressed the balance of light entertainment. I miss that lightness.”

While a third penned: “Really miss Lorraine she had some amazing people and highlighted so many health issues affecting people from all walks of life. Hope Lorraine returns again.”

But fear not, Lorraine should be gracing our screens once again at some point in April.
