Princess Diana‘s biographer Tina Brown has claimed the Sussexes are in a ‘sad’ predicament in America, amid a string of professional mishaps and Harry’s estrangement from his family.
Ms Brown, a friend of Harry’s mother who was editor-in-chief of Tatler and Vanity Fair, believes the Sussexes are failing due to Meghan’s persistently poor judgment.
Harry’s determination to follow his wife’s lead, and not being ‘the brightest bulb’, has compounded their errors, Tina claims, adding that he must make amends with his father and brother and ‘find a way to come back to England’.
‘He was born to be a prince. And now he’s essentially just some guy doing PR gigs while Meghan tries out her latest cooking idea or whatever’, she said scathingly.
She has cited the photo-gate debacle that saw Kris Jenner’s 70th birthday bash, which was partly-overshadowed by the mystery over why pictures of the couple partying with stars were deleted from social media, as the latest massive blunder by the couple.
Describing the couple as ‘pariahs’ in America, Ms Brown gave a damning perspective on the couple to the New York Times, saying: ‘I have never seen anybody in professional life make as many mistakes as Meghan has. And unfortunately, Harry is not the brightest bulb.’
Ms Brown, the highly respected author of The Palace Papers, said the couple’s errors could lead to financial problems.
‘He [Harry] thought that Meghan would be his guide in the big wide world beyond Buckingham Palace, and it turns out that Meghan makes one terrible professional decision after another. And now they are sort of pariahs everywhere, it seems, which is a very difficult situation for them because America was supposed to be the place which paid the bills’, she said.
Prince Harry held Meghan’s hand as he led her into the Kris Jenner’s lavish James Bond-themed birthday party but there was confusion after pictures of them outside were mysteriously deleted by Kris and Kim Kardashian
Tina Brown, a respected journalist and biographer who knew Harry’s mother, says he needs to end the feud with his family and find a way back to England
Speaking to the NYT, Ms Brown has urged Harry to return to Britain.
She said: ‘What is sad is that Harry’s very good at being a prince. He’s charming, he’s upbeat, he’s attractive, he makes people happy when he walks into a room, he’s very good with young people.
‘You could send him around the world and he’s always going to be welcomed and appealing. And I think he has realised too late.
‘It looks more and more as if Harry’s best decision would be to find a way to come back to England. I’d like to see a way for him to make amends with his family, but it gets harder and harder as the years go by.
‘I think that William is going to be the decider of that, and I think William has a very tough view of the whole situation, which is that the betrayal of Harry is not something that can be remedied’.
A spokesman for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex was asked for comment.
Candid photos showed the couple cosying up to Kris Jenner ten days ago.
In another Harry was seen sashaying towards the birthday girl on the dancefloor in Beverly Hills.
But within 48 hours they were all mysteriously ‘scrubbed’ from social media by Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian, who had shared them with their millions of Instagram followers.
The Sussexes were among the A-listers invited to the James Bond-themed ball thrown for Ms Jenner by Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez at their $165million estate.
People Magazine, the Sussexes’ preferred publication in the US, claimed that Meghan and Harry asked that no photographs of them inside the James Bond-themed party were published.
The publication also claimed that it understood the Duke and Duchess of Sussex ticked a ‘no’ box on a photo consent form, leading to the party images of them on Instagram being removed.
But a source close to the event then strongly refuted the claim to the Daily Mail, saying ‘there were no consent forms’ – leading to renewed speculation as to why the photos vanished and whether it was Harry and Meghan who asked for them to come down.
Spokespeople for the Sussexes and the Kardashians have both avoided answering that key question.
Brand expert Nick Ede said their appearance at the party was all about buttering up Bezos, whose production company is making a movie in which Meghan is starring, but they upset the Jenner-Kardashians in the process.
He claims Harry and Meghan are conflicted because a friendship with the billionaire ‘goes against the narrative of environmental support and mental health’.
He added: ‘Meghan and Harry have a problem with admitting they are now part of Hollywood society which is what she wanted and they cannot on one hand use their star power for good, like going to charity events, and on the other hand demand they are erased from events they don’t want to be seen to support.
‘That behaviour will backfire on them and they need Hollywood support now more than ever’.
Ms Kardashian is said to be baffled over the need to delete pictures with Meghan and Harry
A source close to the Kardashian camp has said they are confused, given the Sussexes were happy to be pictured inside the Baby2Baby Gala hours before, as seen with Serena Williams
Bethenny Frankel said yesterday that she believes the images were deleted at Harry and Meghan’s request and alleged that it was because they didn’t want the public to see them ‘hobnobbing with the Kardashians’.
Despite the images being deleted, the pictures of Harry and Meghan are being shared on social media and were published by several websites in the United States.
Harry looked particularly happy in one photo, putting his arm around Ms Jenner, who was standing between him and his wife, with the prince leaning in to bring his face closer to hers.
Meghan looked far more serious, with her hand on Ms Jenner’s shoulder.
The former Suits star smiled, but not as widely as her British husband, who in another deleted image appeared to be giddy and shimmying towards their host on the dancefloor.
The duchess is seen laughing with her hand resting on Ms Jenner’s shoulder.
Photos of the Sussexes with the birthday girl were posted on Instagram by both Ms Jenner and Ms Kardashian but later deleted, it emerged on Tuesday.
However, photos of Ms Jenner with Beyonce, Justin Bieber, Mariah Carey, Mark Zuckerberg, Stevie Wonder, Oprah Winfrey and hosts Bezos and Ms Sanchez remain on her social media.
Royal watchers have questioned why the images were ‘scrubbed’, branding it ‘weird’.
In snaps that are still online, Ms Jenner parties with the likes of Mariah Carey and the rest of her 300-strong guest list
One said: ‘It appears that the pictures of Harry and Meghan have been scrubbed from Kris Jenner and even Kim Kardashian‘s Instagrams. Wonder why? You go to an event like that you should expect pictures to be taken. It’s weird’.
Another wrote: ‘You never steal a Kardashian/Jenner’s thunder’.
A third said: ‘The photos were a hot mess. Neither [Harry or Meghan] looked good. the 70-year-old Kris was more fresh-faced than either of them’.
