Why celebrity transparency about plastic surgery might not be all it seems: Stars like the Kardashians and Megan Fox are seemingly ‘revealing all’ about the work they’ve had done – but what they decide to share is ‘highly curated’, says expert

Hollywood stars appear to be embracing a new era of openness when it comes to cosmetic surgery – but it might not be all it seems.

Last month, Kylie Jenner – the youngest of the tweakment-heavy Kardashian-Jenner clan was highly praised for sharing details of her breast enhancement surgery on TikTok.

Since, her older sister Khloe Kardashian has followed suit –  revealing she’s had a rhinoplasty, Botox and fillers.

And they’re not the only stars finally opening up after years of dismissing rumours they’d had plastic surgery.

Several high-profile celebrities have confessed to the ‘tweakments’ they’ve had done – and even more surprisingly, some A-listers are seemingly suggesting they’re revealing ‘all’ the plastic surgery they’ve undergone.

But eyebrows have been raised if these Hollywood stars are really being as transparent as it seems, with one aesthetic practitioner telling Femail the information is ‘highly curated’.

Last year, Megan Fox, who has baffled fans with her everchanging appearance, revealed she had a series of procedures.

The Transformers star revealed she had spent $30,000 on the ‘biggest boobs that could fit in my body’. She also admitted a nose job in her early 20s – but denies claims she’s had the procedure done seven or eight times.

Megan went on to dismiss rumours about other procedures she’d endured – insisting she would never have fat taken out of her body because she’s so lean – while candidly discussing the work she wants to have done in the future.

Weeks later, her youngest daughter Kylie Jenner (pictured), 27, went one step further by confirming the exact specification of her breast implants in response to a fan on social media, and even shared who her doctor was, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Garth Fisher

Ironically, despite admitting she loves the results of surgery and wants people to regard her as a ‘circus freak’, she confessed she’s shunned many common procedures because she’s terrified of anaesthetic.

Speaking on the Call Her Daddy podcast she revealed the work she’d had had done on her face – getting filler and Botox but not a facelift or threads – a nonsurgical procedure designed to lift sagging skin and stimulate collagen production.

She explained: I’ve never had a facelift of any kind, no lateral brow lift although I would like one!

‘No regular brow lift, I’ve never done threads. That’s not because of some moral thing, I just don’t really believe they work and I’m also afraid that they would interfere when I do need to have a facelift.

‘I am very tempted to go have my eyebrows snatched like all the way [back]. I want that look. That seems fun and you can do it on a lunch break and I see why it’s so tempting,’

She went on to dismiss rumours she’d had buccal fat removal, (cheek slimming) explaining: ‘I’ve never had that done I’ll never have any fat removed.

‘I’m a very like lean person that doesn’t have enough body fat or fat in my face so I will only ever put fat in.

‘ I will never be taking fat out, which leads me to I’ve never had any liposuction or body contouring or anything like that.’

Megan Fox has finally set the record straight on her various plastic surgery procedures, revealing when she’s gone under the knife, what she hasn’t had done and her future plans

In May, Kris Jenner, 69, caused shockwaves when her representative candidly confirmed that Dr. Steven Levine, a New York City plastic surgeon, was responsible for the ‘recent work’ on her face, which set social media ablaze when first revealed.

Weeks later, her youngest daughter Kylie Jenner, 27, went one step further by confirming the exact specification of her breast implants in response to a fan on social media, and even shared who her doctor was, Beverly Hills plastic surgeon Dr. Garth Fisher.

Her sister Khloé Kardashian then followed suit, responding to a London-based aesthetician’s Instagram clip about her with a detailed breakdown of what she has had done – complete with doctors and service providers.

However, a leading UK aesthetic practitioner has warned that it’s ‘important to recognise that this new transparency is often highly curated’.

Dr Jessica Halliley, founder of Your Beauty Doctor Clinic, told FEMAIL: ‘There’s definitely a cultural shift happening where celebrities are now being more open about cosmetic procedures.

‘But it’s important to recognise that this new transparency is often highly curated. While someone like Khloe Kardashian might discuss a nose job or facial tweakments, there’s usually silence around more invasive body procedures like liposuction or BBLs.’

Earlier this month, Khloe left fans disgruntled when she failed to include a Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) on her list of treatments, and while it’s not confirmed that she’s had the procedure, onlookers considered it a glaring omission.

”Transparent’?… notice she didn’t say BBL,’ one user wrote on X after Khloe shared her list of treatments, while another added, ‘The most obvious BBL of them all maybe.’

‘She did not mention the addition or removal of her BBL, but she definitely had one,’ another noted.

Fresh off her appearance at Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s star-studded wedding in Italy, Khloe earned a glowing shout-out from London-based aesthetician Dr. Jonny Betteridge, who called her the ‘standout face’ of the event.

Betteridge noted that the Kardashians star’s look has ‘changed a lot over the past few years’ and speculated that her transformation likely involved a ‘temporal brow lift,’ rhinoplasty, lip filler, and a face and neck lift.

Khloe responded the next day with a detailed breakdown of what she has had done – complete with doctors and service providers – as some fans praised her honesty.

She decided to set the record straight in the comments section of the expert’s video.

Khloe kicked off the note with: ‘I take this as a great compliment! First off I think these photos are about 15 years apart, but here’s a list of things that I have done. I’ve been very open in the past about what I have done so here we go.’

Khloe listed each procedure, as well as which doctor or what place she had them done at.

‘Nose job @drkanodia90210,’ referring to Dr. Raj Kanodia, also known as Doc Hollywood according to his Instagram page.

‘Laser hair for the hairline and everywhere else @sevlaseraesthetics, Botox and sculptra where my face tumor was removed in my cheek @7qspa, soft wave laser for skin tightening @softwavetherapy.’ she continued.

‘Filler in the past but not any over the last few years (I hear it never goes away, so I’m sure it’s still there but calmed down, lost 80 pounds over the years (slow and steady) @coachjoe.paris,’ Khloe noted.

‘Collagen baby Threads underneath my chin and neck @thethingswedo.co, salmon sperm facials/regular facials, peptides, vitamins and daily skin care,’ she said.

‘In 2025 there are many other things we can do before surgery but when it’s timed, and if I choose to, I know some great doctors,’ she added.

Katie Price (pictured) also hopped on the trend and claimed to reveal all her surgeries

She wrote another comment in reply to her surgery and procedure reveal: ‘Those photos are actually OVER 15 years ago… man time does fly.’

DailyMail.com contacted representatives for Kardashian about Betteridge’s claims but did not immediately hear back at the time.

Meanwhile, Dr Halliley explained: ‘We’ve seen huge speculation about various public figures with trends like buccal fat removal, but generally celebrities avoid directly confirming or denying these changes.

‘The reality is that even in this recent era of openness, many still reveal only what feels socially acceptable or brand-aligned, often to control the narrative or distract from other enhancements – or even past mishaps.’

Before Khloe shared her list, her younger sister Kylie divulged the details of her breast augmentation in a candid response to a user on TikTok who was desperate to ‘know how to get them to sit like that.’

‘445 cc, moderate profile, half under the muscle!!!!! silicone!!! garth fisher!!! hope this helps lol,’  Kylie commented, describing her exact boob job ‘order’ and throwing in the name of her surgeon for good measure.

The Kardashian matriarch then hopped on the trend and revealed that Kylie’s surgeon also gave her a facelift in 2011, though not revealing any other treatments.

Kris, 69, dropped the fun fact after Dr. Garth Fisher thanked Kylie, 27, for publicly crediting him with her 2019 surgery.

Calling him a ‘close and treasured friend’, Kris praised Garth for performing her first facelift over a decade ago and thanked him for allowing cameras in the operating room.

‘Garth you are such a superstar class act!! You did my first facelift in 2011… 14 years ago!!!’ Kris said in the comments section of his Instagram post.

‘[You] made it the most amazing experience ever and even gave us access to film so that others could get a peek inside what it’s like and not be afraid… you have taken great care of us always and remain such a close and treasured friend!! Such an incredible talent!!’

Then, Kristin Cavallari followed in the Kardashian-Jenner footsteps by letting her fans in on the details of her latest breast augmentation.

The 38-year-old set the internet ablaze by revealing her plastic surgery, sharing on her podcast last month that she had decided to ‘redo my boobs.’

The Hills alumna offered further information about her procedure in response to a fan question during an Insta Stories Q&A.

An admirer asked Kristin what size implants she got, gushing over the reality star: ‘I always tell my friends you are my boob-spiration.’

‘Thank you!’ replied Kristin, before explaining that she was 30C before and now she’s 34D. ‘Everyone thinks I went a lot bigger, but I’ve just pushed them up a couple times since getting them done,’ she said.

Soon after, Shark Tank star Barbara Corcoran followed suit and revealed every plastic surgery she’s ever undergone.

The 76-year-old businesswoman said she was inspired to break down her procedures because ‘the cool kids were sharing their plastic surgery secrets’.

Barbara told her followers that she’s had an eye lift, brow lift, neck lift, and three facelifts.

She’s also received a lower eyelid skin pinch, which removes a small amount of skin below the eyelashes to help smooth skin.

In addition, the TV personality revealed that she gets filler in her face four times a year, as well as ear filler four times a year.

It’s not quite the same extent as 44-year-old Katie Price’s list. The former glamour model also hopped on the trend and claimed to reveal all her surgeries.

Talking on a Snapchat video, she said via the Mirror: ‘So the work I’ve had done on my face is, god where do I b***** start, nose…’ she began, pointing to various areas on her face as she continued. Indicating her temple and cheekbones, she said, ‘I’ve had here lifted, here lifted…’

She gestured to her upper lip, and continued: ‘I’ve had under here done but I wouldn’t recommend anyone do that…’ She finished the rundown by adding: ‘I’ve had lip filler, my teeth done, I’m trying to think if I’ve had anything else. That’s it.’

Over the years, Katie has had at least 16 boob jobs, three rhinoplasties and two facelifts.

Dr Jessica Halliley concluded that she’s supportive of celebrities opening up about their plastic surgeries, but she finds the selective nature of the admissions problematic.

She said: ‘As a medical aesthetic practitioner, I always advocate for honesty and ethical practice with my patients.

‘It’s completely valid for both celebrities and everyday people to make personal choices around treatments, but this selective transparency among influential celebrities – especially those who base their brand primarily on their appearance or lifestyle – can skew public perception and reinforce unrealistic beauty standards.’

She insisted: ‘We need to make space for balanced conversations – where aesthetic treatments are no longer taboo, but also not misrepresented.’

However, Dr Apul Parikh of Allergan Aesthetics said that celebrities’ growing honesty on plastic surgery is a step in the right direction and is helping to reduce stigma on the topic.

He said: ‘As a surgeon and a practitioner in the field of aesthetics, I welcome this growing transparency amongst public figures who are beginning to open up and discuss their cosmetic journeys.

‘I do think, however, it is important to keep in mind that any medical work or aesthetic work is deeply personal.

‘I think celebrities have a hard time in these modern days where they are placed under such scrutiny that they feel they need to divulge what is very confidential information.

‘I think people at large need to be aware of this and grant these celebrities some leeway and ensure that their confidentiality is maintained. And we respect that.

‘As I mentioned, celebrities are under immense scrutiny, and there is still a lot of stigma surrounding cosmetic treatments and surgery.

‘I really appreciate this growing trend of discussing procedures, even if it is selective initially.’

The expert added: ‘It is interesting when these celebrities do only potentially discuss certain procedures, perhaps the smaller or more subtle procedures that they’ve carried out, and don’t necessarily reveal everything that they’ve had done.

‘So, although it is not being completely honest and open, I do think this partial wave of honesty is a step in the right direction.

‘All in all, I am very grateful that this seems to be a move towards being more vocal about treatments that celebrities have had, and I think this should only encourage more people to come forward.

He concluded: ‘It’ll help remove the stigma associated with cosmetic treatments and also will help ensure that patients have realistic expectations.’
