SAMUEL West is the son of the late and much-loved actors Timothy West and Prunella Scales.
On October 28, 2025, it was revealed that Prunella had passed away after a decade-long battle with dementia.
Samuel and Joseph West said their mum Prunella Scales died “peacefully at home in London yesterday [October 27, 2025]”.
A statement from them read: “Our darling mother Prunella Scales died peacefully at home in London yesterday. She was 93.
“Although dementia forced her retirement from a remarkable acting career of nearly 70 years, she continued to live at home.
“She was watching Fawlty Towers the day before she died.

“Pru was married to Timothy West for 61 years. He died in November 2024.
“She is survived by two sons and one stepdaughter, seven grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
“We would like to thank all those who gave Pru such wonderful care at the end of her life: her last days were comfortable, contented and surrounded by love.”
Who is Samuel West?
Samuel West is the most well-known of Timothy West and Prunella Scales’ children.
He followed in his parents’ footsteps to become an accomplished actor.
Born in 1966, he has established himself as a versatile performer in theatre, film and television.
Samuel’s notable roles include:
- Appearing alongside his father in the television series Edward the Seventh (1975), where he played one Edward’s sons as a child
- Portraying Maurice as a young man in the film Iris (2001), where his father Timothy played the older version of the same character

Juliet West
