CHARLIE Manby is a young darts player who has been making headlines.
He has been playing darts since before he was even a teenager and his talent is undeniable.
Who is Charlie Manby?
Charlie Manby, also known as Champagne Charlie, is a 20 year old darts player from Huddersfield.
When he’s not playing darts, Charlie is a bricklayer for a local firm.
His talent was spotted when he was just 12 years old at his local working men’s club.
He played for Bradford Darts Youth and beat Mason Wilson who became the under 18s Yorkshire Youth Classic Champion at 12.
In 2022, Charlie Manby won multiple titles at the WDF Europe titles at the WDF Europe Youth Club representing England alongside Thomas Banks in pairs
Banks has been deemed the next Luke Littler but keeps himself humble by remembering his roots, he has said: “Darts remains, in my mind, a pub sport.
“Of course, everything has got bigger and better, but when I think back to how it started, that’s still my foundation.”
Manby partnered with Banks, Archie Self and Luke Littler in the team competition.
They won the pairs, team and overall categories.
Manby saw a meteoric rise in fame in February when he beat Luke Littler’s record of 115.22 on the Winmau Development tour where he scored a whopping 130.70 average after just 47 darts.
He recently stunned Cameron Menzies after winning in the first round of the World Darts Championship on his Ally Pally debut.
An excellent 120 checkout left Manby a chance to throw for the match – and he eventually sealed a fairytale win despite missing four match darts.
Regarding the match, he said: “It was absolutely amazing. It’s not just me who has been up there today. It has been all them lot there, who have been with me.
“I can’t thank them enough. I did what I did. A lot behind the scenes has come from them.
“When I won the first set, I settled a lot. It was a good feeling that going in and being settled on a stage where I have never played before.
“I tried to keep calm, go up there and get it over and done with. It’s not as easy it looks.
“This is 100% hands down the greatest thing I have ever done in darts.”
