When Progressive Story Lines All Seem to Collide – HotAir

This is one of those weird mornings where it seems like everywhere I look, there are big, bold, billboard-size illustrations of what’s wrong with the progressive brain. As if it were a primer for the rest of us, laid out neat as a pin to point to when we say, ‘There’s something wrong with them.’

That might get a quizzical look or a negative reaction from a deluded believer. They don’t see it, or see what’s wrong. They’re ‘not hearin’ what you’re saying,‘ as the elderly uncle of a dear friend used to say.

With stories like these, we can point to this glaring example or that in confirmation: the screaming, hypocritical nature of them.

Right there. We didn’t make any of this up, you see.  *points* It’s right there in the news.

There were two stories late last evening whose framing by the media had me sputtering right off the bat. The first was an AFP piece on the release of the charming Hamas terrorist sympathizer, and Jew hating campus protest activist, Syrian immigrant Mahmoud Khalil.

Yes, AOC had been there to greet him, rejoice in his freedom, and get that all-important resistance cred photo op.

But here it is, a couple of days later. Khalil is now doing the rounds with interviewers, who are breathlessly questioning his time spent in immigration detention, and perhaps overdoing the pathos relative to the situation in order to gin up some more anti-ICE/anti-Trump sentiment.

Why do I say that?

Look how they described Khalil’s release after a couple of months in the hoosgow.

Khalil SURVIVED detention. Unlike the unfortunates who most often do not SURVIVE even encounters with Mr Khalil’s Hamas heroes, less mind (and God FORBID) one is kidnapped and dragged off into their labyrinthine tunnel system, rarely to be seen again after suffering near-starvation and unimaginable horrors at the hands of those sadistic butchers.

An ICE detention center?

Oh, yes.

Same-same.

This poor martyr for the Palestinian cause hasn’t lost an ounce. He’s clean, clothed, not a scratch on his beaming face, and he wasn’t hauled like a sack of bones out of Shelob’s Cave and paraded across a stage in front of howling, menacing madmen before finally being handed over to friendly authorities.

Same-same.

Such a triumph for humanity – he SURVIVED.

Lordy.

Another hoot from last night?

Of all newspapers in the world, the Chicago Tribune is warning New York City voters against voting for the progressive Zohran Mamdani.

The paper has the unmitigated gall to mournfully intone ‘Trust us – We’ve been there.

WHAT?!?

BEEN there?!? Chicago IS there.

And the Tribune is half the reason Chicago GOT THERE in the first place.

A good part of the other half is the moh-rons who’ve been listening to them for decades as they continually endorsed ever more incompetent progressives and various big blue socialist schemes.

…The candidate in the April 2 runoff election who has the most versatility to manage Chicago’s complexities — its financial struggles and City Hall corruption, its gentrifying neighborhoods and deserted ones, its yearning for population growth and for economic growth, its twin crises of crime and policing — that candidate is Lori Lightfoot. Today the Chicago Tribune Editorial Board endorses her and urges Chicagoans to make her their mayor.

Strengths her resume doesn’t reflect

Lightfoot’s resume doesn’t sufficiently summarize her. Yes, her qualifications are impressive: former federal prosecutor, president of the Chicago Police Board, chairman of the Police Accountability Task Force and senior equity partner at Mayer Brown, a competitive, influential, global law firm.

But her most notable talents cannot be captured on paper. She is known as a realistic problem-solver. Those who’ve worked alongside her describe her as an innovator, a lawyer of high integrity, a woman with a mighty big backbone. No one ever has outworked her.

To the Chicago Tribune, this all happened in a vacuum. The newspaper is casting itself as an innocent bystander, watching helplessly as the Windy City ship glides rudderless into an iceberg. All as if they had never played a part in empowering a cascade of failure that inevitably led from Lightfoot to Bear of Little Brains Johnson.

Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!

Nothing beside remains. Round the decay

Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare

The lone and level sands stretch far away.”

It was all capped off this morning by another clueless progressive self-inflicted victimhood story.  Wicked woke morphs into whining that no one likes you very much (which confers instant victim status), and now you must whine even more to survive the effects of *checks notes* what you did entirely to yourself.

These people are insufferable.

Also, this morning, word comes that Simon Biles has detonated her social media accounts. Because of ‘bullying,’ is the word. That is the word progressives use to describe when their ill-mannered, unsolicited, toxic, and obnoxious behavior is questioned and criticized by rational, civilized members of society.

As in almost every case, the gymnast is completely ignoring the fact that she is the rampaging progressive who roared into Riley Gaines’ mentions to rudely chastise the women’s advocate for defending the rights of women and girls in sports.

There was a time not so long ago when progressives would always be the victim of their own losses and emerge as the heroes of their fractured fairy tale. Today, these examples prove they are still trying to cleave to that same tired script.

Refreshingly, the difference is that the public isn’t buying anymore.

In simple childhood terms, Biles is being reminded repeatedly, ‘You started it.’ The sympathy meter is pegged.

Khalil is not a heroic freedom fighter. The Chicago Tribune bears a good portion of the culpability for Chicago’s dumpster fire today. Rachel Zegler and Simon Biles simply had to employ a smidge of maturity, humility, and thought before they engaged their mouths.

You know – like the rest of us, every day.
