What hours are the pubs open on Christmas and Boxing Day?

AS the festive season kicks off, the pubs will be busy – when will Wetherspoons be open?

While most of the high street shuts down on Thursday, December 25, 2025, the pub giant is keeping the lights on in hundreds of locations on December 25.

Most stores and supermarkets like Aldi, Lidl, and Tesco are closing entirely to give staff a break, making Spoons one of the few places to grab a drink outside the house.

So, when can you head down for a pint of Ruddles, and will they be serving turkey? Here is everything you need to know.

Wetherspoons has confirmed that 683 of its pubs will be open on Christmas Day.

However, don’t expect to stay all day. Most participating pubs will operate on a limited schedule:

Opening Hours: 11:00 am – 3:00 pm.

Service: DRINKS ONLY. The chain has confirmed that no food will be served on Christmas Day itself.

One notable exception is The Earl of Dalkeith in Kettering, which plans to open slightly earlier from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. Around 117 pubs across the country will remain closed for the day.

What about Boxing Day?

Opening Hours: Most pubs will open at 8:00 am and close at their usual Friday time, often 1:00 am.

Food: Full food service resumes, including the popular Christmas menu.

  • The Big Cheese Burger: Now “even cheesier” with a side of Emmental and Cheddar cheese sauce for dipping.
  • Festive Pizza: Topped with chicken, bacon, stuffing, and brie.
  • Giant Profiterole: A massive choux pastry filled with vanilla cream and Belgian chocolate sauce.
