We’re sizes 10 & 18 – the five Primark looks you need for autumn that are ‘office to date night’ staples

AUTUMN season has well and truly arrived – which means cosy fashion is back.

For the last year my work bestie and I have been putting high street clothes to the test.

I’m 45, and a size 10 with a mum tum I like to hide while Katy is 34 and a curvy size 18.

While we may be dressing different body types and ages, we are drawn towards the same styles.

Our For EveryBody series has already showcased some of the best inclusive fashion in supermarkets, such as Tesco and Sainsbury’s, and high street faves, like M&S and River Island.

This time of year is one of our favourites when it comes to finding the best looks that work For EveryBody.

So we headed into one of our readers’ favourites to pick up some awesome Autumnal bargains – Primark.

The store, which recently celebrated its 50th anniversary on the high street with a cheeky name change in Scotland, is currently packed full of gorgeous staples, higher end edits and viral nightwear.

The Edit Peplum Cardigan, £22, and Polka Dot Midi Skirt, £20

First up we tried out some seasonal office wear, with a stunning polka dot, balloon style midi skirt, available in sizes 6 to 20. And we matched this with a heavy-knit cardy, with a pretty peplum detail, which comes in sizes XS to XL.

The polka dot skirt was one of our top looks

The skirt is such a versatile autumn staple which will take you from the occasional nice day we get at the start if the season, paired with sandles or flats, through to colder days with chunky boots.

And the cardigan feel pure quality – you can imagine this paired with any number of trousers and skirts. I felt like I was in the Devil Wears Prada in this classic sillhouette – all I need is the designer sunnies to match.

Longline pinstripe waistcoat £26, The Edit Circle Midi Skirt, £20

This second officewear look was just as luxe. The midi black skirt is incredibly comfy and, always a bonus, has pockets.

Matching with the waistcoat was fashion guru Katy’s idea – and it worked a treat. The open front style looked effortlessly elegant and elevated. Another ideal pairing for the office in autumn.

Katy said: “Autumn ‘office chic’ can feel difficult to nail. It’s too wet and windy for sandals, but not always cold enough for tights and boots.

The waistcoat was a top idea from Katy

“So Primark’s two midi skirts are the perfect ‘in between buys’.

“Paired with flat shoes, extra style points if you pick ballet pumps, and you’ve got a stylish but comfy outfit for the day!

“I can see me wearing them well into winter as well with jumpers and heeled boots. They’re true to size, and feel like amazing quality for the price.”

Low Rise Utility Jeans, £20, Second Skin Short Sleeve Tee, £5

Both Katy and I struggle to find jeans that work for our shapes.

For me, they tend to fit in once place, like across the thighs, and gape in other places, like around the waist.

We both find it hard to buy jeans

So we were stunned that these comfy, casual denims fitted us both so well. Especially when they were in a divisive barrel shape.

We paired the jeans with Primark’s super popular Second Skin style top – a bargain dupe for Kim Kardashian’s Skims range – in a stunning autumnal burgandy colour.

It’s so soft and silky – and tucked into trousers it gives a snapped in, neat look. Ideal at just £5.

Katy says: “Finding jeans that fit is always a nightmare, I usually have to size up so they’re not clinging to my tummy.

“But these Primark ones fit perfectly true to size which was a treat! The baggy fit was also surprisingly flattering and didn’t make me look even bigger. I’m a typical millennial who swears by skinny jeans, but these have converted me.

“And the Skims dupe top was the perfect thing to pair them with. It feels like butter, only costs £5 and comes in plenty of colours. What a wardrobe staple.”

Strappy Cami Midi Dress, £18

Hear us out here. A thin straped maxi dress may not seem your usual transitional wear – but this just works.

We opted for the khaki colour, which is perfect for the season. It’s perfect for wearing under knits and pairing with chunky boots making it a quirky but stylish autumn staple.

We styled the maxi differently for our shapes

Katy said: “As a rule, a maxi dress with thin spaghetti straps would scream summer.

“But this gorgeous buy comes in a thicker, luxurious material that will work perfectly in an autumn wardrobe – and it has pockets, yay!

“Pairing it with a waistcoat, like the denim one I picked, gives it a more tailored vibe.

“But I’m also looking forward to layering it up with a woolly cardigan or jumper tucked into a belt. It’s effortless boho vibes on a budget.”

Striped pyjamas, top £14, Trousers £12, shorts £9

Finally, it wouldn’t be a trip to Primark without visiting the pyjama section. The brand are just SO GOOD when it comes to goodnight wear.

We tried out their new pinstriped shirt and shorts or trousers combo. This felt like grown up night attire, like the kind of thing Audrey Hepburn would have worn in a classy 1950s flick.

These striped PJs were super cute

I loved the cute shorts with the fake boxer short trim. And I’d genuinely wear this shirt as outerwear. So cute.

Katy added: “You can’t sleep on Primark’s nightwear range. And while I’m a sucker for a viral print, these classic pyjamas were the winner this time around.

“They’re comfortable, true to size and the double waistband is a cute touch.

“I always feel like I’m getting more value for money when there’s mix and match options too.”

Primark’s best buys for Autumn

Heading into Primark soon? Keep an eye out for these items.

Here, Fabulous fashion editor Clemmie Fieldsend reveals her top 6 buys from Primark this Autumn.

Coat, £60
I know what you’re thinking, ‘£60 for Primark?’ Yes it’s a higher price tag than we’re used to from Primark but its worth every penny.
It’s from their Edit range which is more premium than the rest of their collection and it’s made to last.
It’s a mixed wool blend which is durable and warm, plus its a timeless straight silhouette which is slightly oversized and will last you not only this season but for many after.

Bag, £16
Big bags are back… In a big way, finally.
This tote screams luxury with its croc effect and burnt orange colour, plus its great for shoving in your laptop, lunch, spare shoes, purse – essentially everything you need for the day – all for £16.

Jacket, £32
Field jackets are on the backs of celebrities and catwalk models this season with designer brands Barbour, Burberry and Bottega all championing the utilitarian look.
They’re great for chucking over jeans or contrasting with a floral or floaty dress and are the perfect transitional jacket.

Dress, £18,
You may have seen, heard and read that leopard print isn’t going anywhere for autumn, so to encapsulate the trend this dress is a must.
Sleeves? Check. Midi length? Check. Ultra flattering square neck? Check. It’s got it all.
Pair with black knee high boots or your favourite trainers for the day and dress up with gold heels and accessories for the evening.

Jeans, £16
Barrel, balloon, horseshoe – whatever you want to call them, they are the must have trouser shape of this season.
I’ve tried Primarks pair and they fit like a dream, are comfortable and flattering.
So if you think you have nothing that hits the trend mark, swapping your go-to denim for this shape will bring you bang up to date.

Boots, £24
It’s boot season and instead of feeling like you need to buy one in every colour, length, height – its best to stick to a pair that you can wear with the majority of your wardrobe.
My jaw almost hit the floor when I saw that this black, knee-high, block heel with flat point and side zip (so there’s no tug of war to get them off at the end of the day) was only £24.
If you buy one thing this season, it should be these.
