A couple who sold their home and quit their jobs to travel the world in a luxurious $1 million RV has lifted a lid on the highs – and lows – of their nomadic lifestyle.
Kris, 58, and Hillary, 37, from North Carolina, both spent years working ‘traditional jobs’ in the healthcare tech industry.
They always had a knack for traveling and yearned for more ‘freedom and adventure’ in their daily lives.
When the COVID-19 pandemic hit and their jobs went remote, they decided it was the perfect time to ‘take the leap’ and ‘hit the road full-time.’
They sold their home, along with most of their belongings, and began traveling the globe in an RV.
But living in a van on the road has come with its ups – and its downs – and Hillary broke them down exclusively with the Daily Mail.
‘We figured life is short – why not chase the dream now?’ Hillary explained of what lead to them purchasing their first RV in 2021.
‘It was a big decision, but one of the best we’ve ever made. We realized all that “stuff” was just weighing us down and we’ve never felt more free downsizing.

‘It was honestly really freeing. Now we’re super intentional about what we keep and save money by not purchasing items we don’t need. Three years later, there’s nothing from our house that we miss!’
Soon after hitting the road, the couple started documenting their lives in the RV on Instagram and YouTube under the name Fuel Your Wander, and they have now racked up 918,000 and 638,000 followers respectively.
They eventually quit their jobs to focus on content creation full-time.
‘We earn money living on the road through brand partnerships, content creation, and a mix of personal investments,’ she dished.
Hillary pointed out that residing in an RV means they don’t have to worry about stuff like ‘mortgage, utilities, home renovations, lawn care, and commuting.’
They live in a custom-built luxury American Coach Class A motorhome, which retails for $1.1 million.
The 45-foot RV has a full living room, kitchen, dining area, half-bathroom, bedroom with a king-sized bed, and full-bathroom with a closet.
‘It’s basically a luxury condo on wheels,’ dished Hillary. ‘We have all the comforts of a luxury home – washer and dryer, fireplace, residential fridge, heated floors, large shower with unlimited hot water. It’s definitely more “glamping” than camping!’

As for the downsides of their lifestyle, Hillary admitted that it can definitely feel cramped sometimes.
‘Space can get tight, especially when the weather keeps us indoors,’ she shared. ‘But we’ve learned how to make the space work for us.’
She added that they ‘constantly’ have to deal with maintenance and upkeep on the RV.
They usually stay in each spot anywhere from a couple of days to a few weeks depending on ‘what they’re exploring.’
But moving around constantly also means they barely get to see their friends or family back home.
‘We miss family and the ease of having a consistent routine,’ she admitted. ‘The most difficult part is dealing with challenges of not having a permanent address – things like mail, doctor’s appointments, taxes, etc.’
She insisted, however, that the positives – including getting to explore stunning places and go on fun adventures all the time – outweigh the negatives.
‘The ever-changing views and experiences far outweigh the downsides for us,’ she insisted.

They’ve now traveled over 80,000 miles to 41 states and 20 national parks
‘Waking up to a new view whenever we want, being closer to nature, having total freedom over our schedule, and being able to bring our dog along with us are huge perks.
‘We’ve made incredible memories and met some amazing people along the way. It’s also brought us a lot closer together and was the best decision we ever made.’

Hillary concluded, ‘It’s not always easy, but if you crave adventure and don’t mind trading experiences over things, it can be incredibly rewarding.’
