It will be interesting to see the demographics of the final vote in New York City. I think we will find that the working class and minorities will tend to vote for Cuomo, and the upper-middle class will vote for Mamdani.
The difference will be driven by the fact that the wealthier voters will vote with their hearts–they love all the warm and fuzzy rhetoric and believe in the power of rhetoric–while less affluent voters need to see concrete results.

Mamdani’s latest and greatest pitch for votes is to make law enforcement even harder. For all the talk of New York being a hellhole, it is safer than most large cities in America, even though it manages to create some spectacular crimes and has a tendency to prosecute citizens who are protecting each other and themselves.
Mamdani want to make things worse in the name of social justice.

Mamdani is pursuing a “decarceral” agenda–reducing the number of people in prison–and wants to wipe out the gang database to make it harder for the police to track down violent offenders by eliminating the gang database.
First of all, the gang database is not a “dragnet.” It currently includes about 13,000 individuals in a city of ~8.5 million. That’s less than two tenths of 1% of the population.

It’s part of the “ignorance is bliss” agenda–quit keeping statistics, quit tracking criminals, let the offenders go, and hire more social workers to puff up the public payrolls.

It’s ridiculous, and ridiculously popular with voters who believe that criminality is caused by the criminal justice system, and not by criminals being criminals. This is a belief that only an intellectual with a poor understanding of history, otherwise known as midwits–could possibly hold. Crime and violence have been constants in human history–sometimes there is more, sometimes less, but it has been present since people communicated with grunts.
The gang database gives the NYPD the same tools in a far more objective and organized format–one that is at the core of a prosecutorial strategy that has likely accounted for a significant share of the serious violence reductions in NYC since 2021: Gang takedowns.

Most of the worst crimes are committed by known wolves. The police generally know who is committing the crimes, and separating the criminals from society is the best solution to the decline in living standards in our cities.
This is a strategy prosecutors and investigators throughout the city have been employing to great effect. Mamdani and his ideological cohort–the AOC crowd–are determined to move in exactly the opposite direction. It doesn’t matter why. Perhaps they have the best intentions in the world, or perhaps they are determined communists who want America to fall. It doesn’t matter on a practical level.
They are dangerous.
