Footage shows the vivid green ball careering over Russia’s capital – shining brightly against a pitch black sky.

The blaze is seen speeding over high-rise buildings, bursting into flames, then disappearing in the clouds.

One awe-struck onlooker shared the moment online, amassing thousands of views.

He described seeing a “very bright” and “slow moving” meteor over the city.

His video garnered widespread attention with many likening the fireball to the 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor.

The rock hurtled into Russia at a staggering 12 miles per second and caused widespread damage and injuries.

Although this fireball is not thought to have caused any harm, the bizarre event has raised a number of safety questions.

Just last year, a huge meteor exploded in a blazing white fireball as it flew at an incredible 3,500mph over Yakutia, Russia’s largest and coldest region.

Meanwhile, in the UK Lucky Brits in Northfields and Ealing, west London, reported seeing a bright blob race through the city’s sky on Tuesday night.

Others claimed to have seen the unusual sighting from Wimbledon and Hampstead Heath.

And some even reported catching a glimpse as far afield as Brighton and Grantham.

One onlooker described seeing the “streak” of light dash through the clouds at around 8.10pm to 8.30pm, and initially believed it was fireworks.

It came just days before another incredible “fireball” was spotted over Kent.

Jamie McBean managed to capture the spectacle on his home’s security camera in Herne Bay at 7:10pm.

A stargazer wrote on Reddit: “I’m used to seeing planes coming and going to Heathrow, and also helicopters coming and going; this was not that.

“My next thought was fireworks but I’m 90 per cent sure it wasn’t that, and there was no explosion.

“For reference it was about the same size as the full-ish moon tonight, visible through the clouds, but as a much brighter blue-green color and, again, moving quite fast.

“It was a very odd combination of speed, size and brightness and didn’t look like anything I’ve ever seen in the sky here before.”
