THIS is the shocking moment a reckless driver undertakes a lorry using a slip road – but viewers think they’ve spotted another driver who’s also in the wrong.
The dashcam footage shows one motorist racing down the slow lane before darting into the slip road and popping back out again.
Cops tracked the motorist down and gave them a fine alongside three points on their licence for the dangerous manoeuvre on the A30 in Cornwall.
Devon and Cornwall Police posted the video to social media but it was the motorist who filmed the undertake that got the most attention.
Many users were quick to accuse the driver with the dashcam footage of staying too long in the overtaking lane.
Some comments even called for the motorist to be prosecuted.
One said: “Did the dashcam submitter get prosecuted for lane hogging too as per rule 264 of the highway code?”
Another added: “The camera car should definitely be prosecuted for lane hogging there’s no reason to be in that lane.”
Following the backlash the police road safety team uploaded a longer video which showed the driver had pulled into the lane ahead of overtaking the same lorry.
A spokesperson for the force said people were ignoring the dangerous undertake and instead blaming the more responsible driver.
They asked online users to get some perspective on who the bad driver is in the video.
The statement continued: “Totally ignoring the horrific standard of driving from the car in front.
“In this clip, you can clearly see the camera car was in lane one prior to the incident and moves across to lane two when the slower-moving HGV comes into view.
“Hopefully this will reassure the commenters who somehow felt the camera car was in the wrong.”
The video was submitted anonymously as part of Operation Snap.
The driver who undertook the lorry was identified and later admitted to careless driving.
They received a fine and three penalty points.
Devon and Cornwall Police said the undertake was unacceptable and could have led to a collision.
They urged drivers to be patient, especially on dual carriageways, and wait a few seconds for an opportunity to overtake safely.
