A BENFICA coach appeared to accidentally injure one of his own players while celebrating the club’s incredible 4-2 win over Real Madrid on Wednesday.
The Portuguese side clinched a place in the Champions League knockout phase play-offs when goalkeeper Anatoliy Trubin headed home a last-minute free kick.
The late goal sent the Estadio da Luz into a frenzy, with Benfica fans going wild in the stands and both staff and players storming the pitch in celebration.
Amid the carnage, a coach of the Primeira Liga giants ran over to celebrate with a player.
But as he got close to the Benfica star he slipped and went sliding into him, with both legs completely taking him out.
As the player laid face-down on the grass, the coach quickly got back up and urged him to get back to his feet.
The incident was recorded by a fan in the stands.
It is unclear who the staff member and player were.
Benfica’s win saw them earn the final place in the Champions League knockout phase play-offs at the expense of Marseille on goal difference.
Kylian Mbappe broke the deadlock for the visitors in the first half before Andreas Schjelderup netted the equaliser.

Vangelis Pavlidis then fired Benfica ahead from the penalty spot and Schjelderup got his second goal of the evening to put Benfica two goals up – the margin they required to make it through.
Mbappe added to the drama by getting one back for Real Madrid, but goalkeeper Trubin scored a 98th-minute header to restore the gap.
After the match, head coach Jose Mourinho – who celebrated the incredible goal with a ball boy on the pitch – said: “I think it was very well deserved.
“Kylian had two chances and scored both goals. For Benfica, beating Madrid is an incredible achievement.
“They hadn’t played against them since the fantastic years when they were in the Champions League finals.
“And this is fantastic for the prestige of Benfica and the players. And next up, either Madrid or Inter.”
