US Ordering Partial Evac of Our Iraqi Embassy and Military Dependents in Middle East – HotAir

Hmmm. I’m guessing this means the Iranians just aren’t that big into carrots.

Whoda thunk?

And whoda thunk they’d be using the downtime as they waffle like bashful little girls at the negotiation table to do underhanded things?

ZOMG!

The correct answer to that would be, ‘Anyone in their right mind.’

Against the backdrop of recent satellite images showing construction and changes at Iran’s nuclear sites, Western intelligence officials believe Tehran is using the time afforded by ongoing negotiations to make alterations that would reduce the effectiveness of any future military strike.

“While nuclear talks are taking place, and Iran keeps scheduling yet another meeting, they are exploiting the time to modify nuclear facilities in ways that could diminish the impact of a potential military strike on those sites and their outcomes,” one of the intelligence sources told The Jerusalem Post.

Foreign reports and think tanks have flagged a trend since October 2024, when Israel successfully destroyed all of Tehran’s advanced S-300 anti-aircraft missile systems. They say Iran is trying to move parts of its national security assets underground, spread out to more locations, and finish building a new nuclear facility at Natanz.

Trump was already looking disgusted, but I have to believe that he was only giving Tehran the rope to hang themselves with. He would have been internationally painted as a confirmed war monger (not that he’s not going to anyway) and Zionist tool had he gone in hardball from the get-go.

I refuse to believe any of this is a surprise to him or his team, although it’s always a bummer when the easy way out is a doomed and wasted effort you still have to make.

IT WOULD BE SO MUCH NICER TO DO IT WITHOUT PEOPLE DYING

There’s no point in taking chances with the loons and their toadies. There have been multiple deadline extensions and continuing that is not Trump’s style.

He wants a deal done or evidence that one is going to happen.

So Hegseth is getting dependents out of vulnerable bases, and our embassy in Baghdad is slimming down the personnel left on staff.

The United States is preparing a partial evacuation of its Iraqi embassy and will allow military dependents to leave locations around the Middle East due to heightened security risks in the region, U.S. and Iraqi sources said on Wednesday.

…Iranian Defence Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh also said on Wednesday that Iran would retaliate against U.S. bases in the region if the nuclear talks failed and it was subjected to strikes.

The United States has a military presence in Iraq, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates.

U.S. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has authorized the voluntary departure of military dependents from locations across the Middle East, a U.S. official said. Another U.S. official said that was mostly relevant to family members located in Bahrain — where the bulk of them are based.

…”The State Department is set to have an ordered departure for (the) U.S. embassy in Baghdad. The intent is to do it through commercial means, but the U.S. military is standing by if help is requested,” a third U.S. official said.

An Iraqi foreign ministry official said a “partial evacuation” of U.S. embassy staff had been confirmed due to what the official termed “potential security concerns related to possible regional tensions.”

Others who have business in the area are doing the equivalent of pulling the candlesticks off the table as pugilists square off by warning area traffic to be cautious when transiting the Gulf and adjacent waters.

The Iranian mullahs and hardliners are such rational people.

I’m sure they’ll come to the right decision.
