US bakery chain closes all UK branches and quits country despite praise for its ‘gorgeous’ products

A US bakery chain is closing all of its branches in the UK despite customer praise for its ‘gorgeous’ products.

Cinnabon has announced it will be shutting the doors at all 12 of its branches across the country just five years after launching.

The chain, which sells giant cinnamon buns drenched in toppings such as cream cheese frosting and Biscoff, first opened in 2020 and had planned to open 150 stores across the country in five years.

However, the 20 branches they did manage to open across London, Manchester, Newcastle, Birmingham, Chester and Derby dwindled down to 12.

Earlier this week, customers realised several of them had mysteriously shut down without warning and the company’s website had also been taken offline.

EG On the Move, who partnered with Cinnabon to bring the chain to the UK, has revealed they are closing all remaining sites.

A spokesperson for EG On the Move said: ‘EG On The Move has made the strategic decision to close all Cinnabon locations operated in the UK.

‘This was not a decision taken lightly, but it reflects the strategic shift to focus on our core convenience retail business.

‘This decision aligns with our wider business strategy to focus on areas where we can deliver the greatest value to our customers.

‘We extend our sincere thanks to our team members for their dedication, to the Cinnabon brand team for their ongoing partnership, and to our customers for their loyalty and support.

‘EG On The Move remains committed to providing exceptional food and retail experiences across our 150-site network, and we will continue to invest in evolving our offerings to meet changing customer needs.’

Fans who fell in love with Cinnabon’s ‘gorgeous’ buns have already taken to social media to express their devastation.

One wrote: ‘They’ve shut all the Cinnabon stores I’m about to riot.’

Another said: ‘Today, I learnt that Cinnabon has pulled out of the UK completely, and I’m devastated. This is worse than a breakup.’

‘CINNABON UK CLOSED NOOOO,’ a third posted.
