A woman working at a dental surgery witnessed the aftermath of the hit-and-run.

She told Birmingham Live: “I was standing by the door and I saw the car speeding past.

“It was a grey Corsa. When I looked up, I saw a man in the road.

“I ran to see what was happening.

“An undercover police car was there within 30 seconds and they got out and did CPR, cut the clothes off, the ambulance came within minutes.

“They put the defibrillator on him, everyone was working on him.

“The police told everyone to get back.

“They were questioning people at the scene and now it’s like this.

“It’s shocking.”

Local activist Shuranjeet Singh, who has campaigned for safer roads in Birmingham, lives near Soho Road and went to the site following the hit-and-run.

He told the news outlet: “It’s horrible to hear of another death on Soho Road caused by dangerous driving.

“Our roads need to be safer for all who use them as road crime can ruin communities.”

West Midlands Police said: “The driver of the vehicle fled the scene, and we are continuing our work to locate him.

“The vehicle involved was a Vauxhall Corsa and has been recovered near the scene.

“We would like to speak to anyone who may have been in the area at the time and saw what happened or has any dash cam or mobile phone footage.

“The road is expected to remain closed for some time as our investigation continues.

“We would ask motorists to please continue avoiding the area.

“Anyone with any information is asked to call us on 101, quoting incident number 1819 of 16 December.”

“Sadly, despite best efforts, nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.

“A woman, also a pedestrian, was treated for serious injuries before being conveyed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital under emergency driving conditions.”

West Midlands Roads posted on X: “#Handsworth. Road closed. Collision.

“There are reports of two separate collisions on this route. Expect delays.”

Transport for West Midlands also posted on the same social media site: “Due to a Police road closure on Soho Road, buses will need to divert in both directions until further notice.
