A POPULAR household staple sold at Asda has been recalled after fears of it catching alight.
The supermarket asked customers who have bought cushions from their home-ware and clothing section George to return them for a full refund.
The cushions present a fire risk said the Office for Product Safety and Standards and customers should stop using them immediately.
This is due to the filling used in the cushion which might not be fire-retardant.
If the cushions were to come in contact with a naked flame, the internal filling would go-up in flames.
Customers should note this applies to a number of colourways of the George square cushions.
The pom-pom cushions have also been recalled.
Officials said in a statement: “The product presents a risk of fire because the filling may not be fire-retardant.
“This means that if the seat pad comes into contact with a naked flame, the internal filing will catch fire and continue to flame.
“The product does not meet the requirements of the Furniture and Furnishings (Fire) (Safety) Regulations 1988.”
To check if your cushions are a hazard, look for the small ticket behind the care label for the batch code.
The barcode number is found on the care label for the product.
The supermarket said that those returning the product do not need a receipt.
The retailer has been selling the fire-risk cushions since January 2023.
“We recommend that consumers stop using the product immediately and return it to their nearest store for a full refund,” said officials.
Asda said in a statement on their website: “We have found that in some cases this product (George Home Cushions) does not comply with the fire & furnishing regulations, as the product filling may not be FR (fire retardant) compliant.

“We have taken the decision to recall the product.”
It continued: “If you have purchased George Home Cushions (with the above listed barcode) please bring it back to your nearest store where you will be given a full refund.
“You do not need your receipt. The product was sold between 2023 and 2025.
“We are very sorry for any inconvenience caused. If you would like any further information, please contact: Asda Customer Relations – 0330 053 011.”
