United Nations Employees Discussed Sabotaging Trump’s Speech, And They Did – HotAir

When Donald Trump walked into the United Nations building prior to his blistering speech yesterday, the escalator stopped the moment he and the First Lady, Melania Trump, stepped on it. 

The moment he arrived at the podium to speak, the teleprompter stopped.

Now, since we are talking about the United Nations, the world’s most ridiculously incompetent government-type organization, it is JUST within the realm of possibility that these failures were merely coincidental failures of technology. 

The Times (of London, not New York) reports on the strange series of events. 

The Secret Service is investigating allegations that President Trump was deliberately sabotaged by United Nations staff during his visit to the body’s headquarters on Tuesday, the White House has said.

The investigation comes after The Sunday Times reported that UN workers joked about turning off an escalator before the general assembly meeting. On Tuesday, an escalator broke down as Melania Trump, the first lady, stepped onto it.

It was one of several glitches that raised suspicions about whether Trump was targeted by people inside the institution he has so strongly criticised.

When Trump got to the podium to hold his speech to the general assembly, the teleprompter was not working — although service was later restored — while the main UN audio feed to TV news channels switched over to a foreign language translation towards the end of his speech, obscuring some of his words.

Karoline Leavitt, the president’s press secretary, told Fox News on Tuesday night: “I put out a statement earlier when there was concerning reporting over the weekend from the London Times, as you pointed out, that UN globalist staffers were basically plotting to set up the president of the United States.

“And first it was the escalator, then it was the teleprompter, and then Katie Pavlich from Townhall … noticed that the audio inside of the room was much lower and different for the president of the United States than the previous speakers.

Really? REALLY? REALLY?!

If someone at the UN intentionally stopped the escalator as the President and First Lady were stepping on, they need to be fired and investigated immediately.

Well, probably not a coincidence. As the Sunday Times reported, UN employees thought it would be really funny to sabotage Trump’s visit to the wretched hive of scum and villainy.

Trump, of course, was unfazed, and in a twist of the knife, he ditched his 15-minute scheduled speech and delivered one that took the better part of an hour. 

As I wrote yesterday, it was blistering in its criticism of the useless, or worse, organization, and the delegates deserved everything they got and more from him. 

The United States is not only the biggest donor to the UN, but it is also the host, spends enormous amounts of money on security, and gets nothing but grief from it and its members. We tolerate this because the alternative is even worse–a UN based in Brussels would be even worse, probably–but sabotaging the President of the United States in New York City is something even a cynic like me would not have expected. 

No doubt the UN employees who did this–they who do more to honor tyrants and terrorists than their host country–got a chuckle out of their spiteful actions. They’d better hope they are not found and exposed, though. If they are not US citizens, they are likely to become persona non grata tout suite, and if they are, I suspect that they will find themselves unemployable in diplomatic circles. 

Not because the United Nations managers wouldn’t chuckle along, but because President Trump is not known for taking a joke well when it embarrasses him and our country so publicly. 

Trump practices his own version of diplomacy, and it doesn’t consist of duplicitous words and fake courtesy. He prefers straight talk and harsh punishments when he feels it necessary. He believes in power. 

Some liberals will think that a bit of revenge for Trump’s insults to the body was mere turnabout, and hence fair play, but that misses the point. Trump gets to do what he does and say what he says because he is President of the United States and pays 22% of the budget of the UN; their job is to take it and ask for more. 

But, ironically, the UN is filled with people who don’t understand power, which is one of the many reasons why the UN is so worthless (and much worse) when it comes to promoting peace. 

Let’s hope Trump gives them a lesson in power. It would be useful for all concerned.
