UK’s only indoor theme park with underground rollercoaster that is perfect for rainy days

IT DOESN’T have to be doom and gloom now the sun has gone, as the UK is home to a giant indoor amusement park with games for small and big kids.

Babylon Park in Camden, north London, is an alien-themed attraction with bright neon colours and lights, giant UFOs and friendly green aliens.

And there is everything you would expect to find at an outdoor theme park, at the attraction.

In the centre of the park, there is a rollercoaster that climbs to a height before spiralling downward.

Located on the basement floor of the attraction, technically making it an underground ride, ‘Energy Recovery System’ (E.R.S.) will whizz riders around the track four times before returning to its station.

All the other attractions at the park also fit in with the extraterrestrial theme including the glowing LED bumper cars and the UFO-shaped drop tower.

Or you can head to the slightly slower paced mini Ferris wheel.

For kids who aren’t quite yet adrenaline junkies, there is lots more to explore across the three-storey site.

An arcade area features retro games such as dance challenge machines, as well as more modern options including a VR shooting and axe-throwing game with foam axes.

Traditional ‘hook-a-duck’ even has its own alien twist with hybrid unicorn-ducks.

Players can win tickets on each game, which can then be exchanged for a prize.

Little tots don’t need to miss out on the fun, as there is also a multi-level soft play area to explore.

After all the fun, if you get hungry you can grab a bit to eat at the Ovo & Neta restaurant, which serves a variety of fast food like hot dogs and pizzas and drinks.

Guests can enter the amusement park for free, but they will need to purchase a Babylon Card for £1 to pay for the attractions.

The card can then be loaded with credit via an app or at a kiosk in the park.

According to Kiddo Adventures, £15 gets you 144 game coins to spend in the park, £25 then gets you 240 game coins and £50 will get you double that.

Each attraction then has a different ‘price’, with the rollercoaster costing 48 game coins for example and the soft play is 80 coins per child.

Arcade games then range from nine game coins to 32, depending on which one you choose to play.

The fun attraction is just a 10-minute walk from Camden Town station and offers a great escape on rainy days, or even from the bustling crowds of sightseers.

The attraction is open from 10am to 10pm, Wednesday to Sunday and from 10am to 9pm on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Sun Travel headed to Babylon Park to see what it’s like

A SUN reporter headed to the amusement park last year – here’s what they thought…

As I head down the escalators, the London theme park instantly reminds me of Pizza Planet, the fictional restaurant from Toy Story, because of the bright lights and the space-themed floors and walls.

There are also these plastic green alien figures dotted throughout each level, which are slightly creepy.

Inside the basement level, there were several child-friendly rides, including a bright red drop tower, and a small Ferris Wheel.

But, in my opinion, the best ride was a tiny green rollercoaster that snaked its way around a bright-blue track, woven around the other attractions.

Even more rides and attractions, including a small space for dodgems, were squeezed into every corner of floor space.

There were plenty of tiny rides for smaller children, and there was even a soft play area next to the first-floor restaurant too.

Teenagers and older kids seemed to congregate around other attractions like the axe-throwing booth, basketball hoops, dance machines, arcade games, and virtual reality simulators.

While I might not be Babylon Park’s target demographic, as a 30-year-old woman, I was impressed with the underground attraction, which is definitely an ideal place for young families to escape the January blues.

A new immersive attraction is also set to open in the UK with an indoor racing track and ‘top secret’ games.

And adults don’t need to miss out on the fun either, as a new adult-only indoor playground with pub games and prosecco-flavoured candyfloss has opened in the UK.
