White stayed in fourth place, while silver returned to the top five for the first time in nearly a decade.

Red slipped to sixth, recording its lowest market share (5.8 per cent) since detailed records began in 2001.

The biggest surprise came from green, reports Car Dealer.

Although it remained seventh overall, registrations surged by 46.3 per centto 99,793, the highest figure since 2004, as more drivers opted for environmentally themed shades.

SMMT chief executive Mike Hawes said: “UK car buyers’ preferences remain pretty consistent, with monochrome continuing to lead in popularity.

“The surge in green, however, matches the growing popularity of electrified cars as the new car market decarbonises.

“As ever, manufacturers are responding by expanding model ranges, colours and finishes, giving UK drivers more opportunities to personalise their vehicles, even if grey matters most.”

The rise in green cars comes as demand for electric vehicles continues to grow.

Battery electric car registrations hit a record 473,348 last year, up 23.9 per cent on 2024, giving them a 23.4 per cent share of the market, as the overall new car market grew by 3.5 per cent in 2025.
