THIS is the harrowing moment scores of Ukrainians are evacuated from a packed train amid Russian strikes with Iranian-made Shahed drones.
Terrifying footage shows civilians fleeing multiple carriages in anticipation of deadly drone attacks in the early hours of this morning.
Wrapped in woollen blankets, they are seen running away from the tracks after their journey from the city of Kryvyi Rih to Kyiv was severely disrupted.
Up above, witness said a drone could be heard piercing the sky above as a Ukrainian army interceptor followed behind.
In addition to attacking Ukraine‘s energy infrastructure, Russia has been intensifying strikes on the country’s rail lines – only adding to Putin’s attacks on civilians.
Ukraine‘s public railway company, Ukrzaliznytsia, has reported that engine wagons, freight cars and railway maintenance equipment have come under increased Russian fire since early March.
More frequent Russian attacks on bridges and rail yards have also been recorded.
This comes less than a week after a 61-year-old passenger was killed when a Russian drone struck a commuter train in the Kharkiv region, a few miles from the Russian border.
This morning‘s attacks follow a night of “pure terror” unleashed by Russia, in which at least five people were killed and another 16 injured, including a child.
A wave of attacks saw some 273 drones deployed on a maternity hospital in the Black Sea port city of Odesa and a school in Kramatorsk.
Ihor Shpak, the hospital’s chief doctor, said that a powerful explosion had ripped through the building, destroying the roof, connecting structures between the fourth and third floors, and some hospital wards.
Medics managed to evacuate 22 newborns, including twins who were on ventilator support, and 32 other patients to the shelter just before the attack, he said.
Olena Kudriashova, an Odesa resident, said she was scared when Shahed drones were flying towards her house.
“On the right, on the left, at the front, and at the back, windows and doors were smashed,” she said.
“Our little window survived, and we’re so happy we made it through the night,
Gas production facilities, port infrastructure and apartment blocks were also struck as at least two dozen drones bypassed Ukrainian defences.
“Last night, the Russians massively attacked Odessa,” Volodymyr Zelensky wrote.
“No military sense, this is pure terror against ordinary civilian life. There were more than 60 strike drones in this attack on the city. Unfortunately, there is a lot of damage.
“Among the objects that were affected are a maternity hospital, ordinary residential buildings, enterprises, port and critical infrastructure.”
While Russia continued to pound civilian areas, the Ukrainian military has intensified drone attacks on oil and fuel export infrastructure.
Just this month, it hit all three of Russia’s major western oil export ports, including Novorossiysk on the Black Sea and Primorsk and Ust-Luga on the Baltic Sea.
