THE UK is braced to be buffeted by strong winds, heavy rain, thunder and hail today as summer comes to an end.
It comes as autumn begins with the remnants of Hurricane Erin hitting the island.
Gales are due to hit the exposed western coastal areas as the Met Office warns of strong winds blowing in from the Atlantic.
The country will experience sporadic showers, most frequently in the West, with spells of rain continuing into the evening and night.
Brits have been warned that the showers could turn nasty and may even bring hail and thunder with them.
Yesterday, as Hurricane Erin dropped the last of its downpours, parts of the country were soaked with heavy rain.
Festivalgoers attending one of the final events of the summer season, the End Of The Road Festival in Wiltshire, were forced into wet weather gear.
The final gusts and showers of the hurricane dropped on the sell-out crowd of 13,500 who were forced to tough it out for the event.
Warm and sunny weather on Thursday and Friday were quickly replaced by wind and rain yesterday which is expected to continue until Monday and into next week.
The rainfall is set to keep hitting Western and Southern areas of the country tonight and tomorrow, again possibly bringing hail and thunder as Hurricane Erin passes over the UK.
Tomorrow Brits can expect to enjoy some sunny spells but spots of rainfall and strong winds will remain in play.
The showers could turn into heavy downpours with hail and thunder remaining a real possibility for many.
The Met Office and Environment Agency have said that the flood risk in England is low but have forecast heavy downpours in parts of the country tonight, tomorrow and into next week.
Flood warnings have been put in place for Scotland as Hurricane Erin makes its way North East over the UK.
Brits can expect brisk winds and heavy rain to continue into September as summer comes to a close and autumn begins in earnest.
Despite the rain and wind, temperatures will remain relatively pleasant.
Most of the country will experience temperatures in the low-teens to early 20s throughout today.
Eastern areas of the country will avoid the worst of Hurricane Erin’s remnants and remain relatively dry today.
In the coming days however, the whole country is expected to be hit with heavy showers, hail and thunder.
Forecasts suggest the sporadic rain and strong wind could continue into next week with hail and thunder remaining a possibility in the coming days.
