U2’s Bono responds to THOSE romance rumours about his wife Ali Hewson and his bandmate The Edge: ‘They talk about me behind my back’

Did Bono’s wife Ali Hewson and his U2 bandmate The Edge get together?

The rockstar, 65, born Paul David Hewson, sat down with The Project on Sunday to talk about his upcoming film Bono: Stories of Surrender, a documentary about his life behind the mic as U2’s frontman.

However, the With or Without you singer suggested in the movie that his wife, who he has been married to for 42 years, and best friend David Howell Evans, known as The Edge, were ‘an item’.

During the sit-down chat, Bono said the speculation was ‘still a sore subject’ as he went on to explain the pair’s close relationship over the years.

‘They were the two cleverest in their year,’ he said of Ali and David, who were in the year below Bono at the same high school.

‘She [Ali] did seem to be taking an interest in his guitar playing and, as hard as I might practise, I just knew I couldn’t touch this guy,’ he added of David, who is the lead guitarist of U2.

‘So I had to become, you know, the class clown,’ he said, hinting that he won over his beau with his sense of humour.

Bono said that his wife and bandmate are very good mates to this day – and gossip about him together.

‘They’re still really close – and they still talk about me behind my back’ he said.

‘They say it’s out of concern,’ Bono added with a chuckle.

The rocker then revealed that there are certain people that he doesn’t need to ‘worry about’ in his life because they are ‘so consistent’ and ‘there’ for him.

‘Edge is one, Ali is another,’ he said of his best mate and wife.

Bono went on to praise his wife Ali, who has supported his music venture since he was 15 years old and who he says he couldn’t have achieved musical success without.

‘I’m really one quarter of an artist without Edge, Adam and Larry,’ he revealed of his U2 band mates.

‘And I’m half of a person without Ali,’ he sweetly added.

Bono and Ali were married in 1982 and they are proud parents to four children, Jordan, 36, Eve, 33, Elijah, 25, and John, 22.
