TYLA must have shelled out a fortune for her jacket made of mussels, which she wore to the Glamour Women of the Year Awards.
The Chanel singer looked sensational as she was named one of the Women of the Year at the bash on Thursday night.
I joined stars including Vick Hope, Frankie Bridge, Amber Davies, Shaznay Lewis and Alex Scott at 180 Studios in London for the ceremony and all of us were in awe of the South African pop star as she gave her speech.
Tyla said: “Six years ago, I was sitting on this huge bean bag in South Africa. I’d never left my country before. I didn’t even have a passport.
“I was literally sitting there thinking every day, ‘How am I going to do this?’. And at the time it was Covid. I was like, ‘Everything is working against me’.
“Even though it seemed impossible, I was really afraid of not trying because I never wanted to look back one day and think, ‘What if it actually worked?’.”
Radio 1 DJ Vick, who hosted the ceremony, also made her mark with a brilliant opening monologue, where she made her feelings known about Radio 1 DJ Tim Westwood, who is awaiting trial on four charges of rape.
Vick said: “I had written down that I can remember to say, ‘F*** Tim Westwood’.”
Unsurprisingly, her sentiment got a rather loud cheer.
ARCADE IRE AS WIN AND REGINE SPLIT
ARCADE FIRE’s Win Butler and Regine Chassagne are divorcing after 22 years of marriage – but insist the band will continue.
The former couple, who founded the Canadian group in 2001 and won two Brit awards in 2011, had a child together in 2013.
But their marriage was rocked in 2022 when several women accused Win of sexual misconduct.
He admitted at the time that he’d had extramarital relationships, but protested his innocence, insisting all his interactions were consensual.
But three years on, the pair have released a statement announcing the end of their marriage.
The message on the band’s social media said: “After a long and loving marriage, Win and Regine have decided to separate.
“They continue to love, admire and support each other as they co-parent their son.
“Their work in Haiti with [their charity foundation] Kanpe continues and their bond as creative soulmates will endure, as will Arcade Fire.”
SHE’S found “The One” in Billy Ray Cyrus but Elizabeth Hurley has admitted she’d have happily stayed single forever after a string of shabby dates.
On LYMA’s Power Women series on YouTube, Liz said: “I’d been single for a really long time and to be honest I was pretty happy.
“So when I met Billy, even though I didn’t really know I wanted to meet someone, when I met him, it felt incredibly comfortable and natural and easy from the first second.
“I’d been set up with quite a few people in my single years and never felt comfortable and it never felt right. I’d much rather stay at home with the dogs.”
Liz is on to something there. And dogs are way more faithful than a lot of blokes.
PISTOLS STAR ‘WAS ROTTEN COMPANY’
GLEN MATLOCK has told me that his dislike of his former Sex Pistols bandmate John Lydon grew stronger after hearing his political allegiances.
John no longer performs with the group, who are heading back out on tour in the US, following a long-running feud.
Glen said: “There was something about John. I never really got on with him. I could never quite put my finger on it. But I think it’s to do with his sincerity.
“When he came out with Donald Trump and Nigel Farage and Brexit, promoting it, it kind of made a few things clear in my mind.”
Glen confirmed he’d seen John, aka Johnny Rotten, making a dig that they sounded like a karaoke group with Frank Carter as new frontman.
Speaking to me ahead of his new Sky Arts documentary, I Was A Teenage Sex Pistol, which airs next week, Glen added: “John must be hurting a bit.
“We haven’t done it to spite him. We’ve just done it because we want to be getting on with something. Next year, we’re going to be busy again. We have more gigs coming in from the success of what we’ve done around the world.
“Frank is a great singer, a great frontman, a great guy to be around. He’s a very positive guy to be around, unlike the other bloke.”
CHRISTMAS is just 54 days away and to get us all in the mood, Virgin Radio UK have today launched a festive pop-up station.
Virgin Radio Christmas will play non-stop yuletide bangers, including Step Into Christmas by Sir Elton John, Wham! classic Last Christmas, Merry Xmas Everybody by Slade, Bobby Helms’ Jingle Bell Rock and my own all-time favourite, Driving Home For Christmas by Chris Rea.
On weekdays on the station, The Chris Evans Breakfast Show will air from 6.30am until 10am before non-stop Christmas songs.
I’ve already started stretching my stomach to prepare for all the pigs in blankets I’ll be snaffling.
Tate ‘n’ style
TATE McRAE is usually in a tiny outfit doing the most jaw-dropping choreography you’ve seen, but she went more demure at the Time 100 Next gala.
She wore this nude gown to the fancy event in New York, but once inside she changed into something more comfortable to perform her hits Revolving Door and Tit For Tat.
The latter song became her eighth Top Ten tune last month and even Taylor Swift admitted she loves the track during an appearance on US TV.
Asked how she felt when she saw that the superstar was a fan, Tate said: “I was freaking out, I was like FaceTiming my friends being like, ‘This is the craziest moment ever’.”
Somehow Maura Higgins also managed to get an invite to the bash, ahead of her stint on the US version of The Traitors, which is set to air in January.
CELEBRITY Traitors star Cat Burns has postponed her UK tour after an “intense” period to take care of her “wellbeing”.
Cat who released album How To Be Human yesterday, was due to kick off her tour in Glasgow this month but delayed it till April.
She said online: “Touring is incredibly demanding. I want to make sure I’m taking care of my wellbeing so I’m in the right headspace.”
