A MYSTERY odour has sparked several school closures as ambulances were called for sick pupils.
The alarm was raised at Green Park School, in Bilston, Wolverhampton at around 12.20pm on Tuesday.
West Midlands Fire Service sent three fire engines to the scene, while paramedics treated multiple students for nausea.
The “unusual odour” was emanating from the swimming pool on site, but the source remains unknown.
However, it is believed the odour may have stemmed from a “mechanical issue”.
Students were sent home after the ordeal to allow investigations to be carried out.
Parents have been warned the school, on Green Park Avenue, will remain shut on Wednesday.
And, nearby Stowlawn Primary School is also set to stay closed as an extra safety measure.
A Green Park School spokesperson said: “Green Park School was closed to pupils and staff this morning following the detection of an unusual odour in the vicinity of the swimming pool
“Staff responded promptly with the health and well-being of children and staff, the school’s top priority. As a precaution, paramedics were called to assess a small number of individuals who reported feeling nauseous.
“No serious concerns were identified, and the school would like to express its gratitude to emergency services personnel for their support and advice.”
The spokesperson added: “An investigation is now underway to determine the source of the odour, which is currently believed to be associated with a mechanical issue, and any remedial work which may be necessary. No chemical incident was identified. “
West Midlands Fire Service confirmed crews deployed specialist monitoring equipment at the scene.
This comes just days after we reported how four schools were placed on lockdown with armed police and riot shield cops.
