Emergency crews were scrambled to the A278 Hoath Way just before 9pm.

Police patrols had spotted a Volkswagen Golf being driven in a “dangerous manner” near junction three on the M2.

Kent Police confirmed officers had tailed the car and signalled it to pull over, but the driver carried on to the next exit.

As the car left the slip road, it then crashed into an ambulance on the roundabout connecting with the A278.

The two injured paramedics in the ambulance, which was sent crashing onto its side, were then rushed to hospital.

The force said: “A suspect has been charged with multiple offences following a serious collision just off the M2 at Gillingham.

“A patrol near to junction 3 of the coastbound carriageway became aware of a car reportedly being driven in a dangerous manner, shortly before 9pm on Friday 29 August 2025.

“The officers signalled for the vehicle, a blue VW Golf, to stop using their blue lights. It did not stop and left the motorway at junction 4.

“The VW was then involved in a collision with an ambulance on the roundabout connecting the slip road with the A278 Hoath Way.

“Emergency services attended the scene and two ambulance crew members were taken to hospital with injuries described as non life-threatening.”

Along with Foster-Smith, two teens aged 18 and 15 were treated for their injuries.

The trio were all arrested at the scene and taken into custody.

Kent Police said Foster-Smith was charged with three counts of causing injury by dangerous driving.

Further charges included taking a vehicle without consent, driving without a licence, driving without insurance and possessing cannabis.

He will appear before Medway Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, while the other teens were bailed pending further enquiries.

Appealing for more information, the force continued: “Investigators are continuing to appeal for witnesses and motorists with dashcam footage, who have not yet spoken to police, to come forward.

“Anyone with relevant information should call 01634 792209 quoting 46/151028/25.”
