Trump Trashes Traitorous ‘Allies’ – HotAir

Tell us how you really feel, Mr. President.

In a press gaggle with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz sitting next to him, President Trump made clear exactly how unhappy he is with our supposed “allies”, Spain and the United Kingdom.

Very. Very, very unhappy indeed. Trump announced that he was cancelling all deals with the Spanish government and, it seems, all trade with Spain as well.

I would be careful about taking that last threat seriously, because that is a nuclear option, and Trump may have misspoken.

Or not.

Not stopping there—again, he is sitting next to the German Chancellor!—he trashed Keir Starmer about as viciously as one could without going nuclear on him.

“This is NOT the age of Churchill! The UK is VERY uncooperative. That STUPID ISLAND they have. That they GAVE AWAY, and took a hundred year lease, having to do with ‘indigenous people’ that never even SAW the island before!”

“They RUIN relationships. That country, UK, I love that country, my mother was born there…the UK, with energy and immigration, is HORRIBLE.”

Forget how they feel in Madrid or at 10 Downing Street; just imagine the fainting spell suffered by Ursula von der Leyen. I would pay good money to watch a video of her reaction to what Trump said!

The past few days have been very instructive regarding what NATO “allies” are reliable and which are not. Germany has been pretty good on Iran, with Merz making clear that Iran is a threat to all of Europe and the West, while France, Spain, and Turkey are turning their backs on the United States. Portugal and Greece have both also been supportive.

Similarly, Mark Rutte, the Secretary General of NATO, has been full-throated in his support of Trump’s Iran strikes. Rutte has been pushing NATO to work with Trump, and seems genuinely enthusiastic to see NATO flirt with relevance again.

“The Commander-in-Chief, the leader of the free world, President Donald J. Trump, I REALLY commend what is happening here! Taking out Khamenei, taking out the nuclear capability and ballistic missile program in Iran.” 🔥

“This is crucial. I spoke with ALL the key European leaders…there’s WIDESPREAD support for the president’s doing.”

Prospects for a replacement of the Labour government in the UK are pretty bleak, but it is likely that Starmer’s own tenure will be nearing an end long before the next general election. He is currently the least popular Prime Minister ever.

Similarly, Spain’s far-left ruling coalition looks to be in trouble, and the next general election there is coming up in 2027.

France? France is a total mess, with opposition parties in a good position to take charge, although God knows what that means, since “far right” in France just means anti-immigrant, not freedom-oriented.

Trump is beating NATO into line, but the most internationalist governments are pushing back hard, and Turkey is not exactly a reliable ally when it comes to dealing with radical Islamism.

But one problem at a time. If Trump follows through on his threats to Spain, it will be clarifying for everyone.

Either you are with us, or against us.
